lol yeah i think thats common especially at the start of 1st year when your familiarising with uni and how things operate. youll probably get a shock (well maybe not a shock exactly but youll feel the difference) about how no one really cares how you do, they wont chase up anything etc (this isnt completely true but lol youll see when you get there) might take a few months to settle in

The engineering textbook isn't very useful for ESD1, but it's probably a decent reference for ESD2. I'd wait 'til midyear to buy it if you must, but you're welcome to pick it up off me cheap anyway if you want it.

The physics textbook is huge and far more useful. To be honest, physics is taught like shit at uni and the lecture notes are all over the place. The textbook has explanations that are far more detailed than any vce textbook, so if you read them all, you'll be in great shape. I never spent much time studying, so it wasn't very useful to me (I didn't have the time to finish much of it at all).

The physics book is $140 or so new I think and the engineering book is about $120 new. Both of mine are as new and the physics workbook is unopened. If you want to grab one or both off me, send me a PM with a reasonable price and I'll see what I can do. I'm doing summer semester this break, so I'll be at uni from the 10th of January on if you want to grab them early and get a head start.

You won't know until a week or two prior to Orientation. You will be sent a mail entailing what seminars or lectures you want to go to during O-Week and also the instructions to determining what group you'll be in.

Yeah, the uni gives each host a list of jaffies and we call 'em all up and tell them where to meet us. There's no requirement to stay with your group, though, so a lot of hosts tend to see who can collect the most jaffies.

Info lectures are the biggest lot of rot ever. They're all just a combination of talking up the prestige of the uni and rehashing bits and pieces of the subject's handbook page. I don't recall ever learning anything even remotely relevant to any of my subjects or my course during an info session. No mention of how many hours a week, format of assessments, subject content, etc at all.
