dilemma with choosing an oral topic

Hi guys i think im really interested in the burqa issue and also the asylum seekers issue. which would be better? (im more passionate about the burq Issue tho). in year 11 i did the issue on whether they should allow a mosque to be built on ground zero or not. im not actually muslim but it seems that all my topics are based around the issues the world has with islam. do you think i should steer away from this topic so that the oral assessor doesnt think im a freak?? :idiot2:

well the assessor would be your teacher :) and i would do whatever im more comfortable with and passionate about.

all my issues are usualy about aboriginies and i'm white... So do whatever you want to do, I have found that teachers are impartial enough to give you credit if you do a good job even if they completely disagree with you. So if you're passionate about it then go for it.

our teachers arent our assessors we get external assessors to come in and we do it just in front of them, no class mates, and no english teachers! only the vce assessor!

im indian and my dad wears a turban :P so i was thinking that i would take on a persona of someone from my religion which is sikhism and do my speech at like a multiracial seminar or something and express how i would feel if apart of my religion was taken away from me and then go into the whole freedom of rights and feminism stuff. do you think thats a good idea? any other suggestions?

oh really.. that sucks. hmmm still it shouldnt a problem. if you're truly passionate about this topic then you'll be able to present a clear and thorough speech.
if you're still having trouble deciding talk to your teacher about it.

At least you don't have to do it in your school's lecture theatre in front of two classes xD.

Personally, I find it easier to write about things I'm not passionate about, or if I am, water down my opinion or approach it from a different angle. If you get too passionate it can be difficult to present a controlled, cohesive argument. I never really got good marks for speeches until year 12, when I decided to dumb down my opinion. I did the issue of smacking and my persona was a parent who had written a book on "positive parenting" and had a lot of techniques for disciplining children without smacking. I acted really self-righteous and got full mark.

Gee, that's strange. I'd rather do it in front of 25 persons than 1 person. Is the oral recorded in case of any disputes?

I think you should go with the issue that you want to do for the reasons that others have mentioned.

IMHO, I think my school has the best Oral conditions. One teacher and seven students of our choice. You don't have to present in front of anyone that will distract you! And it's a very intimate set up, allowing you to really connect with every person you're speaking to.

We do it infront of our teacher and 4 students of our choice :P :D

I think we do it in front of an external assessor and one teacher from our school. No students. Which in someways is both good and bad.

yeah i think ill go with the burqa issue, however im really concerned cos its been around for a long time and isnt very recent. and we have to get articles that are written after sept 1st 2010 so atm im struggling to find recent one :S dunno wat im going to do.
and yes i think im unlucky cos its gonna be weird doing it in front on 1 person  :(
