When should I do the SATs?

So I want to do them, but I don't want doing them to conflict with VCE. Should I do the May exam (a month before my midyears) or wait until after VCE and sit them.

Also, how much preparation do they require, is some sort of lecture/tuition needed etc.

Cheers

Sit them as early as you can, since you can repeat them as many times as you like. Get the official SAT book from the collegeboard website, it's a massive blue book that has heaps in it. Also, look around collegeconfidential forums for their best recommended courses - as in online courses/books you can get for your specific subjects or for the main SAT itself.

Oh, to apply to sit the SATs? You just do it all on the collegeboard website and then you sign up for a centre here in Melbourne (or as close as you can) for the days available. And then you prepare by using various resources as I mentioned..

No I mean actual colleges and unis etc.

I was in Cambridge Uni for this program last year and tried to get a grasp of their system, I think the American one is similar?

Yeah I already get the 'SAT Q a Day'...

Different colleges have different entry requirements and procedures, if you go to the website of the colleges you want to go to they tell you what to do. There are often supplementary forms you have to download anyway so you can't just rely on going to a single site.
Most colleges i saw (if not all) where very easy to figure out what to do, since they have a list of steps typically for what you need to do and where at.

Talk to your school careers person or whoever you think is best for information. The careers person at my school basically took care of it for me, helping out with my registration and applying for a centre. The usual place to do it is Scotch, but register quickly because they fill up pretty quickly...I had to go to Haileybury in Keyborough. The collegeboard website has pretty much all the information on how to apply to each university, what to write in essays etc.
Also (if you didn't know), if you plan to get into a decent university like an Ivy League, you'll have to prepare for SAT II Subject Tests so remember that you'll have to include that in your study plans for the year.

LOL it's so true...I get mail for this college that caters for students wishing to leave highschool early... it's pretty funny.

Thanks!

School careers teacher is useless, hence why I've decided to try VN for help :P

With subject tests, only a couple of my subjects are there (Maths and Chem) and I assume Lit is a higher level than English. So would I do subject + general.

You only need two to get into most "high level" universities. Doing English and Lit can be difficult because you need to learn the texts they prescribe in their curriculum (I think?). I'm doing Chem and Maths II.
*I edited it upon a quick google. :P

Look, to be perfectly honest I'm still unsure. I've put it down to Commerce or Law subjects or possibly engineering of some sort. I know someone doing Aeronautics at Stanford and someone doing Law (I think) at Yale (Pixon will probs know him, former Scotch student).
