Subject selection regrets: HELP!

Okay, so for this year I have chosen:
English
Literature
Further Maths
Accounting
History Revolutions

And last year I did Psych, ending up with a 34 :\
I changed schools mid year, which proved that my new school was awesome because my exam marks went from B+ to A+.
Basically, my study habits improved tenfold and it was my mid year marks that let me down!

So, I pretty much hate revs. I tried doing my homework for it, but it's really boring to me and I don't think I'll put much effort into it at all. I'll dread going to every class  :buck2:
Whereas I LOVED psych, and already have a lot of the knowledge for this study design (I looked over it, and it hasn't changed much from last year's)

Here's the question: should I repeat Psych, likely getting 38+,
Or stick with Revs, which I might come out with a 30?

Wouldn't you only end up with 5 subjects though?

Couldn't u just change subjects when u get back to school and find something else if u hate revs?

I might be a little biased, since I'm quite in love in Revs (:P), but I don't think repeating a subject is the best way to go.

I would get too bored, studying the same things over again, if I repeated something. Also, I rarely hear of anyone doing much better in the 2nd time they do a subject.

You might find that you end up liking Revs when class starts, or if you're really against doing Revs, maybe pick up another subject instead (but without repeating Psych)?

P.S. Which revolutions are you doing? Just out of curiosity. :)

That's a pretty hard situation to be in. IMHO, you should try your best to make Revs enjoyable to you, and stick with it. Like Menang said, it's uncommon for people who repeat a 3/4 to do much better. Along with that, the temptation not to study is really strong if you repeat something you know well, whereas with Revs there's motivation to study hard.

This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Psych is changing quite a bit.

There is no Visual Perception.
There are only 2 Area of Studies.
There is a brand new Area of Study: Mental Health..

There is a change in exam format.
The addition of a new Section C brings an extended-response question.

You're going to have to work if you want a 38+ as Psych is extremely competitive...choose wisely.

Well, I wouldn't get bored, because I actually am in love with Psych :P I'm planning on doing it in University.

And really, I can't think of any subjects that I would prefer... Really, NONE. I am extremely picky! Maybe Legal studies, but the lessened workload for Psych is so, so much more tempting...

The only reason I didn't do as well as I expected is because I really slacked off at the start of the year, getting 70%s and such in SACs. But end of year, as my study habits became better, all were above 90%s.
So I truly believe I would do so much better.

I really hated Visual Perception, anyhow. And the changes I've seen actually interest me more, so I'd be more likely to study them to death!

Only repeat Psych and drop His Revif you think you can get

(new psych score)-34 > (his rev score)/10

remember to include the scaling as well tho.. just remember the extra 10% is pretty important.

Ooh I did French and Russian, too. :D

I'm not entirely sure how extension/enhancement studies work, but if you really like Psych and you've done the 3/4 last year, maybe an option would be to do Uni Psych for a 5th subject increment?

That way, you're doing new stuff (as compared to VCE Psych), and it helps if you're going to do Psych at Uni anyway. :D

I've seen far too many cases of people repeating subjects to gain no significant difference, and it really breaks people to know they've wasted a lot of time and effort on a subject. Also, in terms of maximising your ATAR score, it's more likely that you'll get a higher aggregate by doing revs and thus having 6 subjects, than gaining a much higher pysch score and for it to only be in your bottom 2. i.e. you could gain a 3.0 for Revs, or you might only increase your aggregate 0.4 if you improve your Pysch from 34 to 38.

P.S...'ATAR' doesn't want you to do Pysch because he thinks you're competition for him. :P
ATAR: 99.90
2010 - Classical Studies [45] - Mathematical Methods CAS [50 + Premier's]
2011 - English [49] - Specialist Mathematics [LOL]- Latin [LOL] - Chemistry [LOL] - UMEP Mathematics[LOL]

2012-2018 - UoM: Biomedicine, Chancellor's Scholars + Doctor of Medicine

Would have LOVED to do the uni extension thing, but Melbourne uni wasn't offering it and it was way too competitive to get into Monash; who I don't think were offering it either :S

Also, to the people who say I'll get bored with it; I honestly don't. When I was studying for the end of year exam, I literally wrote and rewrote my notes every day for 5 days straight. It was a bit odd, but it was beneficial with the A+ I got :P

I am in such a tough position here, I hate it! I can't make myself like Revs either, I tried to get into it but I can't!

Ultimately, I think it comes down to what's important to you.

Revs is a fair amount of work if you want to do well - there's a lot to take in and memorise, and then you have to do a gazillion practice essays.

Do Psych if you're after an easier subject next year - where you've already done a majority of the course.
(Apparently the study design is changing this year?)

Do Revs if you care about the extra 3 aggregate points that could potentially impact on your ATAR.
