Actually, I find that aiming for 50 is not a bad thing. You might as well aim for a big score to give yourself the best opportunity of doing well. However, I think it's foolish to EXPECT a 50, which to be honest I often think is a case of luck. In any case, I'd say that ATAR doesn't like the idea of people thinking they can get 50 because that means less positions for him to get a 50. Chyeah. :P

On a more serious note, if Cayteelin has a strong understanding of how people fall short when repeating a subject, I think he/she will avoid those issues. To me, it seems as though the decision has been made...you clearly don't want to do Revs. Nobody on this forum should force you to do otherwise; we've given our advice and you've made the appropriate choice for yourself with it.

P.S...ATAR, don't take yet another thread off-topic with the random arguments you get in. Bring it back on topic.

That. :D
Like, literally, everything in that post.

Thank you so much everyone. This really has helped.
I emailed my teacher, and I'll let his opinion be the last before I make up my mind, but at the moment I'm pretty much swayed a lot more towards Psych.

Let's be nice fellas, I think ATAR wanted to say that many people take subjects purely on the basis of them thinking it is an easy high score.

That is true and most of us know it :)

But yeah, unless you're super obsessed about getting a mad high ATAR, I don't think scaling/easyness should determine whether you take a subject.

Definitely agree with this.
I choose Revs and Indo last year because I loved it. I knew only 2 people every year get a 50 for Indo, and never ever even suspected I'd be able to come close to that.

Same for Rens this year, where the highest score last year was a 49 (a 50 didn't even exist!), but the scaling is no where near the likes of latin. Doing it cause I love it.

In the end, doing what you are passionate about makes the year a fun one, and you work harder, hence getting a better SS.

Good luck with your decision! :D

Glad we could help!

Similar to Menang, I chose Classics because I absolutely love it. I've never been so inspired and motivated by a subject and it's definitely not a subject that you can easily get 50. There's only one 50... and 45 is top 6 in the state :)
At least when you finish the year, if it doesn't come out as you might like, you won't have any regrets because you've chosen what you love.

Good luck with the decision and 2011 as a whole!!

Yeah, your scores are extremely impressive! Tell me honestly; how much of a life did you have last year, and how much do you expect to have this year? :P

And that's true. I hope it's gonna benefit me more than strenuously pulling myself through Revs will.

My boyfriend has been doing Latin since Year 7 (by correspondence until he moved to a school last year that had the actual class) and although he is very smart, he finds it crazy hard. I suppose it will be worth it for it getting scaled like 15+ :\ haha!

Thankyou, and good luck with this year! (Pulling my hair out at what lit will be like though :P)

@Pixon: Wow, you impress me a lot as well. Haha!
That is true.
And thank you!
By the way: this is off topic, but what happens if I don't get the score I need anyway?

I say repeat Psych if you feel really, really, really confident and passionate about the subject.

I'll be repeating English - I only finished one essay in the final exam but still managed a 34 - but, there is no way anyone would be content with this score considering the incomplete exam (which was for me, due to mind-blanks and nerves).

I'm not repeating English on the basis that it is going to be a breeze the second time round.. or that it'll be any easier. Instead, I'm doing the subject again on the basis that I know I will be able to do better, if I get my time management and organisational skills down pat.

But also bear in mind that unless you get a really high, amazing score in Psych this year, the impact on your ATAR score will be very minimal. Your prospects for a higher ATAR would seem far more attainable with a 6 subject VCE program, instead of your proposed 5 subject program.

Yeah, I feel the same way as you about it not being a breeze - just the time management and all.
So I was using the ATAR calc, and figured out that with my current Psych score and what I believe I'd get in all subjects (including Revs) - I'd come out around 83.45.
HOWEVER, if I keep those same scores, get rid of Revs and put Psych up 4 - I come out with an 84.50..

Thanks! :) I wasn't expecting it, tbh. :P

Honestly, I had plenty of free time on my hands - (although a lot of which was spent procrastinating -_-). It was definitely not an intense studying routing at all.

For me, it was a little bit of consistent work everyday - even 30 minutes was enough - to consolidate some concepts and the occasional weekend before a SAC (which, for Revs, was only once a term). Do this throughout the year, and SWOTVAC will be way easier.

Actually, during SWOTVAC, I didn't complete a single Indo prac exam (waffled through half of one), and for Revs I did 3 prac exams. I find consistency throughout the year beats any amount of studying hours during SWOTVAC.

What do you mean? What is the score that you need?

I mean, ATAR score.. I need 81-85 to get into the course I want (they're scores from diff unis).
So if I don't get that score, what the heck happens to me? Do I become a hobo on the streets? :P Haha!
