I will back up ATAR in saying that SACs help immensely.  Anyone who's seen my statement of marks know that in some ways, my SAC marks (200/200 for English) saved my comparatively lackluster exam.  At the same time though, don't freak out about a tiny tiny SAC or something if you happen to lose a mark on it - there's lots of opportunities to make up for everything, so just keep everything in perspective.

Also, fuzzylogic's point is null if you do both English and Lit.   >.>  Guess which subject I took more seriously? :p

good point EZ, i guess i was referring to simple english folk ;)
and why didn't someone tell me not to freak out about every tiny sac mark before!?  i would have saved a lot of money in therapy LOL.

Yeah SACs are important and I learnt that the hard way.
During Unit 3 of legal studies I wasn't really trying really hard during SACs which in the end I got 87/100 which gave me a A and I looked back if I tried harder in Unit 3 I could've gotten a 44 for Legal.

SACs are very important especially if you have a weak cohort - you would want to be ranked in the top few.

^^Agreed, but even in stronger cohorts, they matter.  Even kids at Melbourne High can get Cs and so forth if they get bad SAC rankings.

Also don't feel too bad if you SAC marks are quite low, they are yet to be moderated. I can't believe my 60% average in SACs turned into an A.

i was ranked equal top and then our SACs got pulled down to As :(
but luckily VCAA rectified that.  but still, sacs and cohorts and scaling and stuff are so...strange.

SACs should be abolished in favour of frequent external examinations. This will remove distinctions between private/public schools, as individuals will be examined on personal merit, rather than cohort strength.

That would make for a good system. I like SACs, I've never found them hard to prepare for.

Number one tip for me, exercise as often as possible. Feeling healthy helps your mentality and puts you in a positive state of mind to study.

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”
