Its quite obvious that Thushan will be the dux of 2011. With most people, they are somewhat surprised when they log on and see their 99.95 ATAR score. For the case of Thushan, we'd all be shocked if the numbers 99.95 did not appear. The only thing that could even slightly prove a set back is his English Language, but judging by his posts, his English seems quite fine. xD

However, there might be another 99.95'er amongst the 2011 class. Judging by the study scores, I reckon Menang. :D

Yeah, whilst it's easier for some to get 99.95 from their scores last year generally everyone who did pretty well last year still has the opportunity to get it. So try and not get deterred by the talent VN has (I know I have been :p). Good luck to Thushan, Pixon and the rest aiming for it though !

Word hard. XD

English is going to be the determining factor for most people. Even if I did get 50 for both Spesh and Chem (and 35 for Latin), I would still require a 46 in English/Lit to get 99.95 (according to atarcalc). But yeh...Thushan probably won't have an issue. :P

And Zien...as if you're deterred ;)
ATAR: 99.90

How you can see that it's quite obvious that Thushan will achieve a 99.95 is beyond me. The year hasn't even started and so much can go wrong, placing this kind of pressure on him really isn't necessary.

I'd have thought the fact that getting 80+ votes in his favour for something that indicates he will get 99.95 was far more pressure than any one single comment saying that it'd be more shocking if he didn't get that score than not...

Does that make it necessary to apply more pressure?

Agreed, although I think we would be a tiny contributor to pressure in the scheme of things, I'd hate to think how your teachers would be after your scores last year Thushan.

Anyway, how the hell do I have more votes than you Romperait? In fact, how the hell am I 6th? Seriously guys, use your votes wisely (and when I say wisely I mean don't vote for me)

Yes. Yes it does. ;)

Of course not, that's not what he was saying.

I don't see how the thoughts of random kids on the internet actually places pressure on a person. What does it matter if you don't meet the expectations of people who hardly know you?

And luken's telling the truth. ;) haha

If they're an intelligent student who has plenty of promise, they will certainly have high expectations pinned upon their shoulders whether they like it or not. It's not really the people's fault for pressuring them either; it's just a 'natural' thing to do (and I use that term in the loosest way possible). Dealing with pressure is just another thing you have to do in VCE and in life in general regardless of their brilliance.

If he was really bothered about the pressure, he wouldn't be on VN. Rather, I think he enjoys answering to people's expectations and is grateful for people wishing him for the best. But don't quote me on that; I'm not Thushan. ;D

Wait what? Which part of my reply are you referring to haha

But yeah I agree, not that I'm the same position as Thushan but I kinda feel honoured that random people have faith in me purely because of my posts (I'm presuming?) and helpfulness :)

Speaking as the person who won the poll last year (even though I told everyone to vote for appianway), some of us can find the overload of attention and expectations quite overbearing.  It's a self-defense mechanism of sorts, which wouldn't need to be there if there wasn't as much pressure being put on from people around us.  :p

The reason I posted that comment was based on what EZ said about 'the overload of attention and expectations being quite overbearing.

Keep in mind that what I said was only in defense of Thushan and my interests were only in saving him from an overload of attention and expectations, and as such I'm more than happy to apologise to luffy and Romperait for coming off as too aggressive.

This:

It was just a joke Luke. :P

And yeah, when I told my teacher (last year, not about Thushan) that some kids get 2 50s in year 11 he was shocked and thought said that, oh they're just nerds with no life (literally lol) who will get 99.95. True story.

I totally agree with EZ and The Ghost Inside. It's just undue pressure on Thushan for absolutely no reason and personally I wouldn't want that - but of course we can't speak for Thushan, some people thrive in the challenge.
