How can I stop making stupid mistakes?

I always end up making careless (mostly to do with arithmetic) mistakes.
Does anyone have tips on how to minimise these?

here is a dodgy advice..

set out some arithmetic questions and try solve as quickly as you can without making errors of course and try again until you get it right..

lol sorry its the best i can do.

Practice, practice and practice.
Give yourself a list of about 20 arithmetic questions and give you self say 20-30 seconds to answer them.
Do this as slowly or as fast as you want as long as you do it in that time but give yourself at least 5 seconds to
look back over it and see if you are right.
Gradually drop the time down for each question but keep the same time to check over it. You will not only
process them faster but realise if there is a mistake much earlier.

This is probably no help, but thought I would try.

:) checking your work is very important. If you have doubts that you've done something wrong; either redo the whole question again if you have time, or come back to it and sift through the working slowly.

It's pretty hard apart from practice and all that sort of stuff. You can try going back to check a long time after you have finished with your answer. In this way you are no longer in the mindset of that particular question and might be able to notice errors more easily.

train yourself like a robot, there's no "method" to minimise mistakes, we're all humans, just becareful and redo calculations in your head after you've done it the first time.
