Second Round Offers From UoM

Does anyone know if UoM 2nd round offers occur regularly? I have heard that they are notoriously stingy with giving them out.

I am below the clearly-in for Biomed by 0.1, and was curious as to whether i was any chance at all of receiving a 2nd round offer. I have no SEAS or Access Melbourne to help.

UoM only gives out second round offers to Access Melbourne (ie. SEAS) applicants only unfortunately.

I'm sorry.

The stark contrast between UoM and Monash.  UoM is purely based on academic merit.  Access Melbourne is only for the extreme circumstances and they have been criticised, I believe, in the past for this.  So that leads me to believe that's why the "Selection Guarantee" was created - to shut the critics up.

Access Melbourne is the biggest wank of a scheme ever.  I cannot believe they get preference over normal second round offers.

People work hard to just miss out on there course whilst 90% of SEAS applicants make up bull shit and get the ATAR requirement for their course lowered by 10 points.

I am utterly pissed off for people who missed out, including some personal friends of mine.

I really don't like the selection guarantee as it stands, it should be a capped thing like Graduate Access Melbourne - 20% of places allocated but not the 50% that it was this year for Biomedicine.

I agree with the sentiment that it's ridiculous to overlook academic merit by this much (I mean god forbid we use it to award tertiary education places)

Thanks for the quick responses.

A bit disappointing and surprising to miss out TBH, but there really isn't an awfully big difference between the two (Science and Biomed) if you are doing one of the majors offered in both degrees.

I'm not even sure if I am going to do a health-related major now anyway.

So I have a friend who just missed out on commerce by 0.2 I think.

What can he do to try for a second round offer?

He can accept an offer for the time being, and wait for second round offers.

At least the competition for med won't be as fierce as it might have otherwise been :D

Holy crap man that sucks! You're like my clone haha. fuckkk that's bullshit. Luckily my school was bad enough to qualify for "category 7", boy I never thought I would ever say this. But I'm so thankful I went to a crappy school now. At least science is really really similar though! So I guess it's not too bad in the end, but I understand why you'd be annoyed. To be 0.1 off and not get in is a joke.

Ouch. Are you able to get into Science? They're basically the same in the end and there's plenty of health-related subjects and majors to take within science. :)
