I'm sure this topic has been done over and over, but I just can't justify the many many hours needed for a decent spesh score (I don't really want to settle for a low score).
Did eco this year, got 48 scaled.
Other subjects for next year (2011): Eng, MMM, Physics, IT-Soft Dev, then spesh or further
and ill be dropping one of physics, it, or the last maths (not methods) or my monash uni computer systems enhancement

future aim: technology startups, possibly though a computer science degree either here or in the US.
2010: Eco 46
2011: Eng 45 MMM 47 MFM 50 Phy 44 MUEP Comp Systems 5.5
2012: Stanford University :)

Do it if you're good at maths or like it. If not then stay away...
Also have a look at what scores you want to achieve. 30 in spesh > 40 in further well it would be pretty close after scaling, i think it's the same with 35 in spesh and 45 in further. have a think about that as well

Lose 6 marks in Further exams, lose a 40. Lose 6 marks in Spesh exams, keep a 40.

Your pick

(NB I'm very biased though and using very selective information for my case)

o.0 6 Marks and lose a 40? .. a bit exaggerative there :|

I lost about 5 marks and was ranked 4-6ish out of 150 getting a 46, my brother lost 1 mark with 100% SAC and got a 50 so there is still some leeway between 45-50 it's not overly difficult

I meant 'each' btw (I wasn't clear enough there). <--- I think that is true. Losing 6 marks each (12 total) in spesh would get scaled over 40 anyway (if it wasn't already over 40 that is)

The main reason for choosing Spesh would be for that personal challenge and sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that you may get from attempting it. As far as results go, Further is easily the smarter choice. You could probably have a third of the workload for the same scaled study score, and this is no exaggeration.

It really depends on your workload, I personally wont be able to handle spesh therefore chose further.
One of the year 12's last year from my school got a 49 in Further due to losing one mark in the multiple choice section. So yeah, its all upto you.
2011:

English 35, Further 45+, Methods 35, Physics 32, Turkish 33, Legal 28.

(True story) My brother worked his ass off in spesh (whilst being quite talented in the subject too) did like 30 prac exam 1s and 2s and got a 36, whilst did nothing extra for Further, not even studying for SACs (got 100%) or exam and got a 50. It's your call

Because if you do spesh, then you don't need to study for methods. If you do further, you have to study for both given that they don't share that much in common. I didn't study methods the entire year, just did a few probability chapters and still ended up with a good score (now you'll also need to do some matrices work as well I think). That said though, I did a hell of a lot of spesh and got 41 (scaled to 47 or 48 or so). If I did further (and I actually did originally put further down on my subject list - my school 'accidently' put me into spesh so I just stuck with it), even with less effort spent I think I would have got near the same or better; can't be sure. But doing further, I would have just gotten so bored with it. On the other hand, I actually enjoyed the challenge of doing spesh. Whether this applies to you or not is up to you to figure out.

Lol this is easy:
In further, you need to draw something called "Box and whisker plot"
In spesh, you don't.
Problem solved.
