Enrolling in subjects - Completely lost!

Okay so i got offered Science @ UniMelb. I'm up to the stage where i choose my subjects, and i don't know where to start!

i've looked at this site
https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/faces/htdocs/user/search/SimpleSearch.jsp
and
https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/B-SCI

I want to major in Human Structure and Function, where doe we find the prerequisites? wait i found this site
https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/!R01-AA-MAJ%2B1018
so i have to do the 2 subjects at the top and 2 electives? this guarantees i major in HSF ???

Thanks

Here

Pick your 3rd year subjects, open them all up and find their prerequisites. Open their prerequisites up and find their prerequisites. Rinse and repeat until the windows you've just opened don't have any prerequisites at all. Then compile all the subjects you have open into a semester by semester plan, making sure you've accounted for which semesters each subjects is taught in. You'll have gaps, but you can fill those later: only worry about the subjects you need atm.

Tip: you get to choose two third year electives for your major, so make sure you're prerequisited for all of them. :)

Don't pick third/2nd year now. All you need to do is enrol in this year. If you want to do HSF, or something along those lines you'll need to do chemistry and biology in both semesters of first year. Search for those on the handbook, have a read etc.

When you want to add them, click the link "add/change subjects" under admin in the student portal. Then collapse the 2nd/3rd year part of the plan and leave the 1st year part open. Click "choose", enter the code of the subject you've chosen and select it. Then you're returned to the plan and you have to "enrol" formally.

For science subjects:

  • Collapse everything.
  • Expand 'B-SCI - Bachelor of Science , Admitted...'
  • Expand 'BS-SCIENCE - Science Subjects , Approved'
  • Expand 'BS-SCISUBLV1 - Science Level 1 , Approved'
  • If you have a box in there saying 'Option for blah blah blah,' follow it across to the right and click 'Choose.'
  • Search for the first year science subject you want and add it.
  • Repeat 5 more times for your other first year science subjects.

For breadth subjects:

  • Collapse everything.
  • Expand 'B-SCI - Bachelor of Science , Admitted...'
  • Expand 'BS-BREADTH - Breadth Subjects , Approved'
  • Expand 'BS-BREADTHL1 - Breadth Level 1 Subjects , Approved'
  • If you have a box in there saying 'Option for blah blah blah,' follow it across to the right and click 'Choose.'
  • Search for the first year breadth subject you want and add it.
  • Repeat once more times for your other first year breadth subject.

If you're doing any 2nd or 3rd year subjects, just go to any of the other levels that it will fit in (e.g. a second year subject can go in either 'level 1-3' or 'level 2-3') It's a bit of a nightmare, but the idea is 'stick it anywhere it'll fit.'

Sidenote: this list option is a bloody nightmare!

But it didn't so i dont know what subjects we can enrol in :S

CHEM10003 (610-101) Chemistry 1
CHEM10004 (610-102) Chemistry 2
Are the first year chem subjects, you can see they are level one as it says "101" and "102" others have "2XX" and "3XX" if they are level 2 or 3 respectively...
To do Anatomy subjects, you will have first needed to do first year biology, so do the first semesters of bio - choose them in the subject selection. The ones you want to do are called cells and the other is genetics (in their name) you will see they are also level 1.
You should be able to easily see what is level 1 when you are choosing subjects in your portal...

Lol, i find the system pretty simple, don't know what all the drama is about!

If you're finding it simple, I think I have issues with understanding the simplicity of such things, hahaha!

Once you're feeling more comfortable with the system, find the page for the major you're interested in and check out some of the 3rd year subjects you'll have to do. That way you can see what you'll be up for and what you need to do as prereqs

For science subjects:

  • Collapse everything.

  • If you have a box in there saying 'Option for blah blah blah,' follow it across to the right and click 'Choose.'
  • Search for the first year science subject you want and add it.
  • Repeat 5 more times for your other first year science subjects.

  • Collapse everything.
  • Expand 'B-SCI - Bachelor of Science , Admitted...'
  • Expand 'BS-BREADTH - Breadth Subjects , Approved'
  • Expand 'BS-BREADTHL1 - Breadth Level 1 Subjects , Approved'
  • If you have a box in there saying 'Option for blah blah blah,' follow it across to the right and click 'Choose.'

it only allows 5 subjects(62.5pnts) so can i put the 6th one under 'BS-SCISUBLV123' ?

i tried enrolling but it doesnt work even after logging out:
"Application Error

An unexpected error has occurred. Please log out and try again. If this error persists, please

    * call the Contact Centre on 13 MELB (136352) if calling within Australia, or phone +61-3-9035-5511, if calling from outside Australia, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm AEST
    * check Online Application Help for advise and troubleshooting if the error occurred while you were lodging an application for admission

Is this because we're not meant to enrol into the subjects yet?

No, it's because the portal sucks. I can't even log in without closing/reopening firefox.

From what I can see, you're fine to put your subject there. It's kinda hard to stuff it up, you can always just delete them

Yeah, you can put any subject anywhere it'll fit. There's heaps of overlap between the levels for each part.

As for the error...I dunno. Call the student centre? (you can find their number by searching for the name of the student centre on the website).

By the way, you might notice that the portal often gets caught in a cycle of page reloads when you try to go to it, so it's just a constantly-refreshing blank screen. The way to prevent this from happening is by actually pressing the logout button every time you close the portal.
