BCom "BC STREAM" option, and enrolment in subjects

hi! i understand the enrolment in subjects procedure is
  • pick my 3rd year subjects
  • enrol in all their prereqs

problem is i have no idea what subjects i wanna be doing NOW let alone in 2013 :( what can I do? i will of course be attending AAD on monday and probs making an appointment but any info would be much appreciated

second problem, is the streams.
I know that Actuarial Studies requires different subjects and tracks, so i understand that stream,
i am not going to do Actuarial Studies.

what is the Business and General stream?? whats the difference? which do i want? aaaaaaahhh :(

i refer to this choice from 3 options:

I think the business stream would be for students wanting to pursue a business major (that is, third year made up of 3 of more disciplines of commerce). Otherwise, I would infer that if you're not studying an actuarial or business major, you go with the general stream. Can someone studying commerce or an expert course adviser (eg. Russ, RusticMetal) confirm this?

correct.

I intend on doing Bcom majoring in Accounting... But the subjects I need to do and number of subjects I have to take is really confusing ! I intend on doing Intermediate French alongside it... Can anybody help me out ? I have no idea where to start with subject selection..

2010: English (41) , Mathematical Methods (36) , Further Mathematics (44) , French (33) , Economics (39)

You will have to do three core subjects (the compulsory ones) and to major in accounting; you have to do Accounting Report Analysis and Accounting Transaction Analysis and Principles of Business Law ( to meet CPA/CA accredition requirements) and you will have one breadth subject to choose.

That is for year 1

and for the breadth, you may be able to do French. So it all works out nicely for you!

Yep.  ARA, ATA and PBL (breadth) are subjects you must do in first year for the accounting major.  Secondly, there is the compulsory quantitative part in first year such as "Quantitative Methods 1".   Thirdly, another 2 subjects are compulsory - Introductory Microeconomics and Introductory Macroeconomics.

Already, this is 6 subjects thus far.  Then you have room for one more commerce elective and one more breadth (for example).

Bachelor of Science (Mathematics & Statistics) - Discrete Mathematics & Operations Research

Hang on - I just saw this sample course plan http://www.bcom.unimelb.edu.au/bachelor/majors/accounting.html

And it says I gotta do QM1, Intr.Micro and Intr. Macro.. then ATA, ARA, PBL and also APA to qualify... that would only leave me with one breadth in semester two.. Can i put French there ? I assumed French would be an all year thing ? Ahhh so confusing !

You can do as many breadth subjects as you want in first year but if you do too many you're going to have a very boring 2nd/3rd year

That's referring to the level of the subject, not the year in which you complete it

What are you referring to by sequencing? You certainly don't need to do 8 1st year, 8 2nd year and 8 3rd year subjects exactly.

There are plenty of 2nd/3rd year subjects with no prerequisites, especially when it comes to breadth

For the finance major, what units do you have to do to meet the CPA accreditation requirements?
