I intend on doing Bcom majoring in Accounting... But the subjects I need to do and number of subjects I have to take is really confusing ! I intend on doing Intermediate French alongside it... Can anybody help me out ? I have no idea where to start with subject selection..

You will have to do three core subjects (the compulsory ones) and to major in accounting; you have to do Accounting Report Analysis and Accounting Transaction Analysis and Principles of Business Law ( to meet CPA/CA accredition requirements) and you will have one breadth subject to choose.

For the finance major, what units do you have to do to meet the CPA accreditation requirements?

the accreditation requirements is covered in the Course Planning Guide 2011 :D

So if I wanna do a double business major, I have to do the Business stream?

What other majors are available in the General stream? Thanks in advance AzureBlue! :)

Josh, what do you mean double business major? Like, business major + another major?
thats a good question

I still have the question of am i to pick my major right now before the year has started? :s

The majors in the general stream would be
Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing
that is to say, all possible majors EXCLUDING actuarial studies and business, which have different 'streams'.

Ok so say i choose the business stream and study accounting, economics and management. How would i even fit this into the 3 years? isnt the accounting major thing really restrictive in what subjects you must take?

Yes, if you're doing an accounting major and are pursuing accreditation, but I think the accounting part in a business major is smaller than the accounting part in an accounting major (you wouldn't be able to do the equivalent of a triple major in accounting, economics, management). A business major merely means that in your third year, you study subjects from all 3 disciplines.

ok, i'm confused as to how i would select my subjects then? Or is it better just to do the general stream and do a double major?

Depends how many areas you want to study in third year. (Although with a double major, you could do 3 accounting subjects in third year, 3 marketing subjects and possibly fit a little bit of management in. Not much difference really)

Ok, so what area(s) of commerce do you really want to do the most?

These decisions are hard, yes...

I really am not sure yet but am interested in accounting, management and marketing.

I am mainly interested in management and marketing only.. So the General stream then majoring in both is more suitable than the Business stream?

yep. I think the business major is called 'the business major' because its a mixture of 3 or more areas.

In terms of employment which is better?
1. A double major in accounting and marketing
2. A double major in accounting and management
3. A business major consisting of subjects from accounting, marketing and management

TIA

So i've decided i'm gonna do the general stream and do a double major in accounting and marketing but i don't get how i would fit any marketing subjects into my first year because accounting is gonna take up 3 of my subjects then there's like 3  compulsory subjects and because i'm choosing accounting doesn't it mean i have to do principles of business law as well?
So i only have one subject remaining which is my breadth subject?
Do i take principles of marketing as breadth? can i actually do that?
