When did Australia adopt Sharia Law?
We didnt adopt sharia law.

We're a capitalist society, those bankers saw a need* and they filled it, nothing wrong with that is there?

It's the free market

We have Italian restaurants are you going to object to those because we suddenly adopted Italian cuisine? Haha like to see you walk through china town then  ???

Haha, you can see how absurd that the notion is i hope.

Now, if you're being forced to do banking under sharia thats a totally different issue...

*(they could legally fulfill, hope no one uses absurd arguments about dealing drugs and things)

In other news....

That note taking job sounds sweetttt i really need to get a job come uni as well.

What exactly does it involve though, i mean cant they just get the notes off the recorded lectures and things like that? I mean I'm not complaining about people getting work...

No you need to bring a timesheet to each lecture which the student must sign by the end, otherwise you don't get paid. Not sure what you mean by getting notes off recorded lectures... you're still using your own time to transcribe notes

On the flip side the student must also be in the lecture, so if they wag class you cannot take notes for them

Oh, i was kind of going down this path.

I thought why would they need someone to copy notes down for them if they could get copies of the lecture slides and things like that off the internet.

I wrote it pretty late now i realise what you were saying now.

before 28 feb..or at least, that's what it said on my invoice.
Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I thought our HECS debt was immediately deducted off our pay.. or do we have to pay it during the end of financial year? I love it way better when our employers do everything for us like take tax immediately from my pay check.

Hey, couldn't help notice the discussion to do with interest. If anyone's interested to know more why interest is bad, you can watch the following films (which you can watch for free) below:

Zeigeist: Addendum

Zeigeist: Moving foward:

Official Zeigeist website:
http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
(you can watch both movies from this website free I think also)

Anyway, happy viewings and enjoy! :)

I think it gets taken out automatically from your salary once it reaches a certain threshold (i.e. yes we can be lazy and not think about it, govt will do the work :P)

Be wary though; if your employer for some reason doesn't take it off your pay automatically, you will have the sum due at the end of the financial year =\

Yea I'll bully them into it ;) LOL jks I have no clue what I'll be doing.
I honestly don't see the rush to pay it off all at the moment, because you will be paying it back when you're earning above a threshold, and sure, that threshold may be low, but if your employer immediately deducts it, then it will never feel like that money was yours anyways. Also, money's a bit tight at the moment and I have to buy 3.5k worth of equipment as well as books. If you don't have a part time job now, you'll just feel stretched for money if you use it all now on your fees and won't enjoy uni life like people say you should.
personal opinion which has probably been repeated.
