HELP:
I'm actually having so much trouble deciding breadth now! Since doing a language may be too much, and I'd want to do philosophy subjects for interest, but I'm a pretty poor writer and I wouldn't be able to do a closed-book written essay/exam in these subjects. Better that I'm writing an essay from home with resources and can get it checked and that, so avoiding them..
Now looking at Poetics of the Body subjects (includes like rethinking the body), or media&communication (like media&society)? Anyone know much about these or something else that a poor English student could get a potentially good score in?
How did you go in EL?
The linguistics subjects look very interesting and are something we are acquainted with. Also Dr Jean Mulder is renowned. And they have a good balance of analytical sciency stuff, but will also have some writing.
Overall, I think they are a good choice for me. I will probably be taking them this year, and depending on how I go, I may continue with them next year, or do some other breadth subjects otherwise.
Don't take something too hard or stuff you are completely unfamiliar with. It is all good for people to say 'try new stuff' and 'it will be boring doing science themed breadth', but at the end of the day, you want to get into a medical degree.
So doing subjects that will give you the best grades to achieve this is rather important.
Choose something that you will enjoy, but at them same time, try to ensure you can score relatively well in it.
Also, if you want to experiment, then do it in first year, as it is weighted less on your final GPA calculation.
