Ideal number of VCE subjects in Year 12?

Besides the obvious number...
What do you think is the ideal number of VCE subjects in year 12?
Don't forget the extension studies as well.
Just wondering if the typical '5 subjects in year 12' is actually too many?

I think the 'traditional' route was the 1+5 but it's being overrun by the 2+4 these days.

IMO I like the 'traditional' route and even if my school had allowed me to do two 3/4s in Y11 I wouldn't have taken it.

4 + a uni subject is really good given that you have done a subject in year 11.

1+4 or 2+3 or 5 are the best IMO. The paradigm needs to be broken, the extra workload for the 10% is ridiculous. It can easily be redirected into one of the top four subjects. However, I appreciate the value of doing a subject you enjoy as an extra or a uni subject for a challenge, depending on what your goals are.

I think 4 because then you don't have to figure out which 4 subjects to focus on so they can be in your top 4. Even if you did well in year 11 with your 2 3/4s, you can focus on all your subjects in year 12 equally

I thought I might add also that it depends on what you want to achieve outside of school for such...I remember having a conversation with ATAR awhile back and he said he would rather do 1 in yr 11 so he can focus it more and still do quite well in his 1/2s and doing extremely well in his 3/4, while for me I want to keep up a heavy sporting schedule through next year so for me doing 2 this yr focusing on them alot, and just be happy accepting Cs and Bs in my 1/2s....

2 in Year11 and then 4 in Year12

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely -- at least, not all the time -- but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Haha, good memory! Exactly.
I'd rather a subject secured in my Primary 4 (SS 45+ pls) so I only have 2 to worry about in Year 12 (+1 English - compulsory anyway).

dont be crazy like me and do 5+1 extension study in one year :o but I dont see it as the end of the world as

a)The extension study will help with one of my 3/4's immensely
b)It finishes off before exams begin
c)m@tty managed to survive 6 in a year and his subjects would be considered "more difficult" than mine
d)I think of the people last year who did a 3/4 and want to push it to 6th place, so by default im already ahead of them with the 5.0~5.5 increment

*rocks back and forth regretting not doing a 3/4 in year 11* :(

How about 1 + 6 (incl uni subject)? Fun times :)

I know a couple of people who did this.  If you can pull it off, good for you, and you'll probably be rewarded even (two perfect scores had that setup, or even 2+6).

I personally did 2+5, but was planning on doing 2+6 originally (stupid Monash Philosophy and VCE Philosophy clash).  I think 5 (well in my case, more like 4.5, since one was a uni subject) is a good number to go by, but take or give depending on how much extra stuff you do apart from school.

That was what I did with mine.. Since uni subject has to be in the bottom 2, I focus heavily on the 4 VCE subjects, which became my top4
