Actually, its not really common. We occasionally get 1 each year. My year had none for example.

Yeah but methods 3/4 in year 10 could pay dividends, imagine rocking into year 11 on a 45+ in what's considered a pretty difficult subject. Would do wonders for self esteem.

Why is methods a difficult subject compared to the other 50 VCE subjects?

Methods is not 'difficult' given you put in the work, really. It's nothing compared to Spesh! However, it is difficult to get a high score in, because of the level of competition there is.

I just don't see why people go 'oh maths is hard' when from my point of view, 45 in methods is 100 times easier than 45 in any humanities subject.

I don't get how level of competition is a factor when you consider just the coursework for the subjects and an individuals strengths/weaknesses. So I don't see how methods is any harder.
I can only see further < methods < spec due to how maths subjects are constructed, but thinking they're somehow better than non maths subjects, I don't get that.

it is a factor, it's a reason why it is scaled higher than other subjects, it's because in general the strength of the competition in maths is much higher.
