Do we have practs every fortnight? or does it depend on the subject?

Varies. Some are weekly, some are fortnightly, some are allocated randomly

Is it best to place it before a lecture or after a lecture?

I always liked the Tuesday 9am slot. Just don't put it on Wednesday afternoon (or Thursday, if you can avoid it).

Yeah, but the big barbeques are generally held on Wednesdays from about 1pm on (more beer, engie bbqs, etc) and people will often hang around on south lawn for pres for any event on a Wednesday night.

As for the timing of a lecture...put the prac afterwards. When you finish a prac you can leave straight away, so no sense having to wait around for a lecture. :P

I've only done Chemistry 1 and I had my prac on Wednesday at 10am.  I thought it was a pretty good timeslot.  Lectures were on Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

In any case, for Chemistry 1, you don't need to worry.  The pracs are not directly based on lecture material.

When do we find out what weeks we do or don't have pracs?

When do we find out what weeks we do or don't have pracs?

In the first week of uni, you will need to head into the Chemistry building and look on the first year noticeboard.  There it will have your student ID, the day of your lab, the time of your lab and your group number.

Then when you've bought your Chemistry Laboratory Manual from the chemistry shop in the basement of the Chemistry building, you can check the timetable provided in there and with your group number, it will tell you which weeks your pracs are.

Don't worry too much about it now, you will be informed about all this if you go to either the info session during O-Week or in the first lecture or on the LMS.
