You only need to do 4 breadth subjects so you could do physics 2 and chemistry 2 so you get more choices. Be aware though, you need linear algebra to do second year physics.

You could try and do calculus 1 via CAP.

The important thing to ask yourself is what kind of major do you want to do?

Ok so if you want to major in psychology, then I would do both chemistry subjects, do one maths and maybe a biology subject.

If you know you want to major in Psychology all you really need to do is Psychology.
The rest is just preference, not backing yourself into any corners.
But don't remove any MBBs because if you're missing one you can't take the major.

I meant that I still need 2 electives next year so I might have nothing to choose from. That's what I'm worried about :\

What is CAP?

Thanks for your help guys.

CAP seems interesting.

im doing 4 subjects this semester. I have chosen to do psychology over physics. However i still want to study fundamental physics because i am planning to do the GAMSAT and a major might require this as a pre req. Can i do this via CAP?

or is CAP for other purposes? i read more information on CAP and it says we can do it to fulfill pre reqs....

not sure how this works, hopefully someone can elaborate!

Thanks heaps!

You can overenroll if you have a good reason to do so, but if you planned on taking all the subjects at the same time, doing that many subjects in your first year could be detrimental to your marks.
I, too, am meant to be taking Physics: Fundamentals but I'm in a different situation to you - I've already taken both Psychology subjects so wouldn't be doing 5 subjects in the first semester (I'm taking it for the GAMSAT too :))
Unless you're planning on completing one of your breadth subjects at a later date, they might not allow you to take Physics because you will overload your timetable.  Would you take one of the subjects in the summer semester?  Perhaps a breadth subject, to make up for the lost window during the semester...
125 of your credit points may be Level 1 subjects, so if you use up 12.5 on Physics then you will have to do more Level 2/3 breadth to make up for it.  That's not too big a deal, though.  At least I don't think it is!

As far as I know you don't actually need CAP to do your extra subject if you sort out your study plan properly, because it is a first year subject and you're allowed to have two extra level 1 subjects anyway.
I would talk to someone at the EPSC which is what I did today.  She just told me to wait until my credit was approved and then come back though - uber helpful.

Doing a summer subject has crossed my mind a few times.  By looking at the handbook, i dont think they offer physics:fundamentals as a summer subject. I only see it being offered in semester 1. I shall call up later.

I really want to do psychology rather than physics. I dont want to be doing physics in my first year purely for pre req purposes, i actually want to do something i enjoy like psychology. But i need physics for the GAMSAT, which is really frustrating! If i can't do Physics:fundamentals as a summer subject, then it has to be done in semester 1. OR if i do more breadth subjects in 2/3 year.

At the moment im leaning more towards doing it as a summer subject.

I hate the EPSC .. i spoke to a lady last time, she was in her mid twentys and to be honest she didn't help at all. She kept on saying "contact the blah blah field", "i'm not sure" etc etc..

Never going back to the EPSC...

Yeah it's not offered but you could move something else into the summer semester.
Like take a biology or chem subject in the summer?

chem 2 is offered as a summer subject but not chem 1. not sure about bio.

They normally have it sequenced, like chem 1 then chem 2 and physics:fundamentals then physics 2 etc.. i havent seen a summer subject that is offered in semester 1 :/, i only see semester 2 subjects being offered as summer subjects. hmmm or maybe i just cant find it :(

I'm having another idea... can i just self learn physics fundamentals by purchasing the textbooks ? Would that be too difficult?

Thanks heaps

You can, but it doesn't count as "meeting the pre-requisites" because you weren't officially examined.

It's a lot of effort. Doing some sort of physics subject will help immensely in getting you familiar with the content and thinking processes, because learning it off a page is very different and (imo) not that useful/easy
