Am I backing myself into a corner?

So first year I'm doing

Mind brain and behaviour 1
Mind brain and behaviour 2
Physics 1
Calculus 1
Chemistry 1
Calculus 2

Can I do chem/phys subjects 2nd year without doing chem 2/ phys 2?

Also, is it okay for attendance if I miss one lecture (the same one) every week..I want Fridays off :( And can I still score wel (it's a Psych lecture).

You can check what the prerequisites are for 2nd year subjects using the handbook, for example to do Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2011/PHYC20010 you need to do physics 2 (and linear algebra, which can be taken concurrently).

Missing lectures is fine if the subject has lectopia videos/audio that you can play afterwards online. If not then I don't recommend it, although it is still possible.

So I can't fail based on attendance?

I'm not sure which subjects I want to do to be honest, but is it possible I might have no good subjects available because I didn't do phys and chem 2?

No, but some subjects have marks allocated for tutorial attendance and participation (not for lectures though, afaik).

I suggest you plan the subjects you want to do in 2nd year now, or at least know what options you leave open. Don't leave it too late or you may regret it. Doing only physics 1 and chemistry 1 won't give you many other options in physics and chemistry in 2nd year and beyond unless you take physics 2 and chemistry 2. However, it's still possible to go on doing other 2nd year subjects which don't have those as prerequisites, look into it!

You'll be in a bit of trouble if you try and take physics and chem at 2nd year without having finished first year (particularly with chem). I'd suggest scrapping MB&B1 (not crucial) for chem 2. You could also take physics 2 instead of a breadth, but then you'd have to add another breadth in during either 2nd or 3rd year (I recommend 2nd, so you can take 2 majors in third year if you want).

Yes, your current subject choices are restrictive and at this time, I would highly recommend against it.

Without second semester chemistry or physics, you're really stuck into majoring in either psychology or mathematics & statistics (provided Linear Algebra is completed over summer).

Your subject selection now seems awfully similar to my one in first year.

Sorry, I meant Thursday.

I can't scrap MB&B1 because I need it for my psych major (that's what I want to major in).

This sucks so bad :(

If you want to take subjects in something like biochemistry etc. then you don't need calc1 + calc2

Calc/Chem/MBB 1
and then
Calc/Chem/MBB 2
second semester?

Why only 3 subjects a semester?

If psych is one of your majors, then you'll only be able to do one of physics and chem as the other one. There's no real use doing the other at first year, since it won't add much later, so I'd just pick one or the other and run with it. Can't take everything. :P

As for missing the Psych lecture, I missed the Thursday lecture all second semester and listened to it at home.  Got a H1.
