There would be some but not a lot. The cutoff for repayment isn't exactly high so unless you go in as a mature age student, it's fairly unlikely you'll never pay it all back.

You plan to spend the next 60 years of your life making at least $20k below the average wage?

That's what we'll tell them.

Nah, just thinking. There's gotta be some graduates who go on to nothing, become alcoholics, never pay their HECS back.

Some also go overseas and work there instead.
Ancient Persian Proverb; " I Wept because i had no Shoes, until i saw a man with no feet!"

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

It's true but there's got to be a way that the government will get the money back...  somehow...

A few of my sister's friends moved here from New Zealand a while ago. Apparently, unless they go back, they'll never have to pay the debt they accrued at uni there.

Unless they're misinformed and find themselves in significant debt later when the government calls it in.

Also I really don't think it's worth not being able to return to your own country unless you pay tens of thousands of dollars (likely bulk). Once you stop factoring it into your budget, it could become very difficult to save up for in later life and lead to you not being able to return home when you want to.

The government won't go hunting them, but never being able to work in Australia is a major drawback to the plan.

Anyway, if you get accredited here as a psychologist, to practice overseas requires you to get reaccredited there (in general)

Are you talking about *every* QLD degree, or just psych?

MBBS in QLD is equivalent to Bachelor of Nursing in Victoria.

Just psych in this case. You should research interstate qualification differences for any profession though.
