Ah ok. Thanks.

And I see you've completed a Major in Immunology and Microbiology. I'm planning to do that as one of them.
Thoughts/comments on it? What was good/bad?

I enjoyed the major. You learn alot about the immune system, how it develops, the cells involved, the mechanisms of action, some diseases, autoimmunity its very broad based and the lectures are set out in a structured way which is good. Some lecturers are better than others. You do tutes for the theory units and i got the best tutor :P. The labs are alright in third year they are like 5 hours long but in the last semester you get to do a miniresearch project at the alfred is was good experience. but the anatomy type stuff you do in semester one was a bit boring for me. But yeah in terms of workload its pretty good and the tutes really reinforce everything, you do 2 mid semester tests and an essay type assignment and lots of prac reports...argh...lol i think i had to do more in micro though but yeah its a really interesting major to do if thats the type of things you want to learn and might want to pursue, theres also a research unit you may want to do.

u can look here to see the unit description

Alrighty!

Hmmn....I was thinking of Genetics, but I'm not sure if I can meet all the pre-requisites for the third year units on time (mainly due to timetabling and all. Most of the requisites are in sem 1 where I would have not enough slots due to the compulsory SCI in second year D: ). So still looking around for the time being, considering I still have time to think about it. :)

You can do Year 1 subjects in year 2 if you need to and things like that so you still might be able to swing it.

Email them and ask them, theyre pretty helpful i found.

you can in multiple ways
check the handbook with those (http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2011handbooks/undergrad/sci-aos-clayton.html), i can help if you need it

you'll still have gaps in 2nd year. sci2010 can be taken in either semester 1 or semester 2

Yeah, it's so complicated o.o (well to me anyways D: So new to all this )

Because I plan to do a post-graduate in Melbourne (Optometry) I have to incorporate certain pre-requisites to be able to do the post-grad without taking a 'bridging year' before that. But at the moment, the more I look at it, the more complicated it seems, and well, the less appealing it is. So after first year, I'm going to re-evaluate and see if I still want to do the post-grad. If not, it'll free up a few slots in second year for me to do a Genetics major as well in third year.

I could show you my rough timetable if you like of what I have so far. (Units by semester)

http://graduate.science.unimelb.edu.au/downloads/OD-prereqs.pdf These are the approved units that can be done outside of UoM.

The following is a summary of entry requirements to the OD. Applicants will require:

*An undergraduate degree (or equivalent); and
*A first, second or third year (or equivalent) subject in physics or optics; and
*A second or third year subject (or equivalent) in anatomy or cell biology; plus
*Two additional subjects at second or third year level (or equivalent) from one or more relevant biological science disciplines.

Yeah I was thinking about a BioChem major instead of the Genetics major considering I would already have done most of the required units. But genetics just seems fun to me D: More appealing than BioChem anyways.

The green highlighted ones are the UoM requisites. (I'm having seconds thoughts with it all D: Definitely will re-evaluate it after first year)

IF you plan your degree from 1st year, you can fit in 2 majors and a minor, this will leave one elective in first year (or two if you are majoring or minoring in maths), and one elective in second year.
