Casio Classpad lag

Does anyone else have this problem? Sometimes when I try to solve an equation in the main screen it just freezes, lags and won't respond. This happened last year in a sac and even the teacher couldn't fix it :/

I'm wondering if theres anyway to fix this? I'm scared this is going to happen in the exam this year..

you can press the clear button or the ESC button on the touch screen (bottom right i think), also an advice for the classpad, try to simplify the equation before typing it in

thanks! yeah simplifying is a good idea. But I don't think clearing works, had to reset it several times >.<

It will happen in the exams. Welcome to the wonderful world of CAS, where you get fucked even if you know what you're doing.

And so it happened last year in the Methods exam 2; apparently the Classpad couldn't solve one of the qns - VCAA had to 'estimate' the mark one would get for that qn

I remember this too! My school uses the CAS calculator. The classpad looked too complicated for me to use :/

Haha the TI looked too complicated for me :p now I'm wondering if I should just get the TI and start learning it :/ it won't be a waste of money coz my brother's school uses it.

Casio seems to have so many problems..

Casio is fine u just have to learn how to rearrange an equation so that the classpad can solve it fast

eg i simply rearranged the equation a bit in last yrs exam and solved the apparently unsolvable equation

Hm how would you recommend rearranging it? Like getting rid of fractions/surds in the eqn?

well in my experience calculus gets the most error with casio so always make sure you simplify it, take out the common factors ect. dont have to worry too much about fractions and surds. if you get some really ugly equation and you have to diff or anti it, try splitting them up

eg. you have to anti diff cos(x) + sin(x), you anti diff cos(x) write down the answer then anti diff sin(x) it helps in spesh to know this

and also in an exam, if your calc freezes reset it straight away, move on then go back to the question, let it solve while you do the multi choice (assuming you do extended response first)

it lags frequently when trying to solve complicated equations
i recommend using num. solve from the menu for these types of expressions as the solving speeds are extremely quick in comparison to generic solving through main tab.
(note that this can only be used to solve numerically, ie you need a real domain)

heres a tutorial link:
http://classpad.com.au/CP270.html
note that the tutorial shows a growth and decay example (late in calculus) but nevertheless the method can still be used to solve other expressions

another example

Go to Menu -> NumSolve
Type in the intergral -> EXE
let y = your rough estimate of the answer (the closer u are the quicker the solve, but dont worry if you dont have any estimate just type 0)
Lower = 0
Upper = infinity (ie. the domain)

edit: oh oops this is the methods forum, thought it was spesh

I was one of those people who got owned by one by the question in methods last year. Most of the time when you want to work something out, you will get the answer-even if you have to wait a few mins (LAG=RAGE) but that question couldn't have been done at all. O_O

Yes, apparently if people used their brains and just set the numerator=0 then the calculator would have solved it no problem.
