Same... I think I messed up the 1st short answer... I got the right final answer I think, but I worked from the volume 0.085 not 2.00g.

Also I probably messed up the fermentation.

Our school uses the Jacaranda text which has like 2/3 of a page on bio fuels... and it was about 1/8th of the entire exam.. what is going on there. THe heinemann has tooonnes more.

Yeah same -- thought I would've gotten a C or something when I first came out. But after seeing the solutions, I may well get a high A or low A+, depending on the ranges.

argh screwed up a few too..pleasepleaseplease let mao's suggested answers be wrong and that im right (although theyre pretty much definitely not gonna be =[ ) guess i'll just wait for a statement and see how it goes, and if it takes a turn for the worst, then ill just chuck it into bottom 2 =D

Yeah just as i thought, i more than likely failed. I absolutely blanked out. How could I forget what fermentation is? Oh well, bottom two subject. 10% of 20 = 2 thats fine by me.

by looking at mao's solutions...i think i lost around 10 marks. i didnt like the chem exam at all...it was heavily based on calculations and hardly on the theory side of unit 3 chem - there goes my precious time wasted on learning the spect. techniques...

It seems everyone on FSN is getting an A+.

It wasn't a hard exam, it was just quite long and not really expected in terms of what we focused on in class and it was different from all the practice exams (but they're all interpretations). I found it quite challenging in terms of time and had a mental blank for a bit of it and it all suddenly clicked in the last 15 or so minutes. I know I stuffed up on the question with 45 m/z value. I said H with a dot on top of it to indicate that it is a free radical, since it was lost, but apparently I'm wrong. I was also curious about showing the full structure means uncluding O-H, because that is almost implied by writing OH and doesn't really seem conventional, but mainly to trick people.

You're right! The other fragment is the neutral hydrogen atom (invisible to the mass spectrometer). Having the dot on top is no problem, you are just indicating an unpaired electron, which is the case for a hydrogen atom!

I'd say 5 is maximum overall (try to lose a maximum of 1 in exam 2).

Wouldn't really have a clue though.

it wasnt as hard as i thought but it was way too long. I knew how to do all of them but didnt get to finish the whole thing and so doublechecking was impossible.

5 marks isnt much to lose. i lost way more than that, and i also worked hard neglecting all my other subjects. Be happy you didnt lose more, i would be so happy with losing only 5.

It was a great effort though, i'm sure u'll do great.
