Do you guys think it'll be easier to get a B this year seeing as though it was a new course?

I got 81% if all of Mao's answers are right =]
63/78!

yea i get around there as well.... i just hope the standard this year is lower with the new course :[
according to last years 2007 Report, you needed 92% [70/76] to get the A+ cut-off mark... *gasps*
Mao you only dropped a mark thats amazing, is that you real name, cause i'll be looking for it under the "50s"
for chem at the end of this year...

It doesn't depend on that as much as it depends on how other students found the exam. Marks are percentile-based.

I think the new stuff was easy :S

yeah.

they didnt exactly ask much on the new stuff. that protein question in MCQ, however, was fairly challenging, but absurd.

simply, if you run a protein through NMR, you'll get a HUGE MESSED UP PEAKS EVERYWHERE spectrum, and that's just not useful to anyone's analysis....

mao: shutup that doesn't even EXIST lol. it's impossible! coblin reminded me.

I lost 1 mark.  Wrote H+ for fragment instead of H (i'm a retard like that).

Isnt H+ correct as the H's get bombarded with electrons which knock electrons out of the shells of the atoms.
Hmmm

technically, yes, as both fragments would've lost electrons.

, where that electron will go with the flow and run off somewhere else :P

I cant stand to look at Mao's answer, it makes my answers pitiful in comparison.

I believe theres an electron collecting thigy in the Mass spec somewhere. Collects remaining electrons

so if you wrote H+ would that be given a mark?

also that second structure that needs to be named, with the Cl and 2 methyl groups. apparently you label the C's from the C nearest the Cl group?

Actually..i think u NEED to write H+ to be given a mark. Its been that way for practice exams and other stuff ive done and my teachers have marked us at maz that way.
As for that naming.. i cant remember.  perhaps Mao could enlighten us. :P
