Melbourne takes longer; 7 years as opposed to Monash's 5. And that's assuming you get straight into the graduate UoM course after your undergrad one.

You're not bonded by Monash, you're bonded by the government. And yes, for the full term of study so you owe them 5 years of service if you study at Monash (you can work off a bit of it early through placements)

If you're in a bonded place, you have to spend a certain amount of time rurally AFTER you specialise - HOWEVER, in saying that, you have to take into account jobs that are needed rurally.
Neurosurgery, for instance, might not be a very good idea, but haematology could very well be viable?

Why is there a 2 year difference?

I think undergrad takes 2 years. 2 + 5 = 7. But I'm not fully sure on this...

It's any undergrad degree, not just biomedicine.

RE: BMPs - you have to spend at least half of it rurally after you specialize, so if you're on placements before that you can work off some of it. You can buy out your contract without losing your provider number, but that's expensive.

Currently ~$18k per year you buy out. Effectively, it's the equivalent of paying full-fee since the government just wants you to pay them back the money they subsidised for your CSP spot. Remember that you'll be earning money at the same time though (~$60k a year) so I guess it depends on the other things going on in your life at that moment. There's also the ethical side of buying out too I guess. But after you go on rural placements on Med, you'll realise that it's actually not that bad. It's actually a better way to get experience even given that there's a shortage of doctors out there, and you'll have to do a lot of things yourself.

Wait so the Government currently subsidises you about $18k, which you can pay out
how much do you pay them, after the subsidisation? :)

ohh but i hear if you go biomed, and you had 99, you have a guaranteed place (if you're liwling to pay)
would that be 9k + ~18k = ~27k, or is it 51k like i hear?

51k

Graduate is more expensive than undergraduate for various reasons
