So I haven't actually discussed this with David yet (he hasn't been online

) but I had this fleshed out on the plane ride home, among a slew of other ideas to make ATARNotes.com better.
But this is the first of them!
We're going to completely overhaul the karma system and reboot it as Community Respect. Karma won't be wiped clean. People with karma will have a small fraction of it retained as their community respect to start off with. I'm thinking maybe 1/50th of karma = your new community respect and you build from there. Numbers are not final, debate those below.
You can no longer 'give credit' or 'karma' to people directly, which was a system mired in abuse and a complete lack of meaning. You have to like their post. If a post gets say 5 or more likes (post your suggestions for numbers below). You get 1 respect point. This stops two people just karma'ing htemselves indefinitely. Many people have to see your posts and many people have to like those posts, and the more people who like your posts the more respect points you get. Could be maybe 1 respect point per 5 likes of your post etc.
If you post an approved set of notes, you get another 'x' points (post your ideas on how many points it should be). If those notes are rated at 4 or above after, say, 10 ratings, you get more respect points.
Basically it will reward quality community participation.
This idea is currently in its infancy so PLEASE I'd like to hear your suggestions below

Cheers,
enwiabe
P.S. Now that I'm back in Australia and part-time at uni, this site is going to get about 60-70% of my time and attention, let's make this thing great, k?
