The root(20) and 81/54 things are probably at the discretion of the examiner.

If it doesn't say fully simplify your answer, it's possible you can get the mark, but it's also not guaranteed.

A tutor for what?

Maths is quite easy, but a bad teacher can throw your hopes down the drain.

I don't know. I just want to be able to grasp maths. Even if I screw it up for the exams, I really want to improve my math skills. I used to be good at math - but that was when math was just numbers and not letters lol. Doing Advanced Mathematics in Year 9 really made me slack too. I just figured 'hey, even if I do badly in this, I'm still better than the other people in my year level who do normal math.' Silly thing to think.

Last year I averaged high B's and low A's for my SACs.

This year,  I got D's (except for the calculus SAC. I actually got an A). My math teacher at the start of the year was super smart, but he was on a whole new level than we were. He'd explain things and we'd just be like...*blank* Then he left and we got a new one. He's okay. I don't really want to say anything bad about him because, in the end, regardless of what kind of teacher you have, it's also up to you to do the hard work. I got pretty discouraged.

Just couldn't apply all the formulas I learnt and stopped bothering to do the work :)

This is my problem: For the 50% coffee. I did this:

Pr(x>2) = Pr(x=3)  +   Pr(x=4)                       X^Bi(4,0.5)
            = 4c3(0.50)^3 x (0.50) + (0.50)^4
            = 2/16        +1/16
             =3/16

I Know the answer is 5/16. i stuffed up the 4c3 part(did it in my head).
How many marks do you reckon i could get for this question.

I also wrote all over the paper that is was binom, drew a table...

IMO it'd be ridiculous not to give full marks for that, however the sad reality is that you are right and they very well may penalise students. Nevertheless, I doubt they will!

Ditto positive_viv. I took adv. general last year and it was about then I went downhill with the harder maths but I do find it really interesting. I hope to pursue maths after school as I feel that I will enjoy it more perhaps? We'll have to see.

I encourage your attempt to continue maths in university out of interest and passion, rather than just being good at it. I'm more of the latter, but a bit of the former too.

how many marks was the Q, i definatly think you'l get one,

i also screwed that Q up but defined it as binomial, n=4, p=.5 and Pr(x>2) = Pr(x=3)  +   Pr(x=4)

Lol. For this question, i couldn't remember the formula properly, and i added instead of multiply... @_@ How dumb of me.

Yes, it was out of 2. I hope a really 'nice' examiner marks it and for some reason gives me 2( i dont think this will happen, but I was once told by a lecturer that if you show all your working out clearly and do all this other crap, examiners might be inclined to understand ur pt and give you the marks).

I did that too. Do you get marks for doing that? I just did it anyway and hoped the examiners would take pity on me, and decide to give me at least a 0.5 for it
