What should I do to prevent myself from becoming sleepy in lectures?

Sleep for at least 7 hours the night before.

Doesn't work, I fell asleep during my ENG1060 lectures everyday even though I had about 8 hours of sleep per night

Man how do you fall asleep in ENG1060. Wai HO is by far the best lecturer compared to my other ones=/

I get <4hr of sleep on days and still find his lecture somewhat cool.

O yeah and it's easier to fall asleep when u sit at the back as opposed to the front i guess.

Lol eng1060 is so boring compare to mth1030 and phs1011. It's prob coz I'm not that interested in programming

LOL your not alone. Why do they even have a lecture about programming, no ones gonna remember it by the time the labs come. He is actually one of the better lecturers i have, but its not his fault just the lecture content is boring.

MGC1010 is also boring i agree. I have no clue what is going on, and im pretty sure very few do as well. I was sitting next to some fob chicks who were talking and playing with their phones the whole lecture LOL

i got pwned..... like serious that test was not normal... linear approximation wtf... i never that was in stats ... and my graphics calculator died as well T_T and omg i realised how to do the variance questions.. after the test T_T without the x values ( iassumed u cudnt do it)

Haha I think they just want you to get used to that notation. I had to use a heap of calculus in it, ridiculous =.= We haven't covered anything even slightly mathematical in class haha. I still think I went alright, but it was so much more difficult than I expected it to be.

there was a question that pissed me off so much the one about calculating F-stat I used the formula they gave us and still couldnt produce the right number

Yeah it took me a while to get that haha, it was very annoying. From the formula they gave, by similarity you had to identify that MS = SS/df ; That would give you one of the unknown SS values. Also given they gave the total SS values for both variables, you had to take away one from the total to find the other, then plug it all into the formula. It's sorta funny though because we haven't really done ANY maths yet in any of the lectures. I suspect that if we completed the recommended questions in the Australasian Business Statistics book, we would have been a bit better off. That said I haven't even bought that haha.

Put it this way, i suspect that a LOT of people went really badly, but unfortunately unlike VCE that isn't really much advantage I just hope the standard is not so difficult in the future, I thought Bus Stats was easy!

first test is hard, second test is usually much much easier. You don't really go into the maths in the lectures themselves, I think the tests are designed to test if you understand the mathematics behind what you learn.

Don't worry though, the standard of the first test is wayy harder than anything else you'll do, even the exam. Also you probably don't need the book. I never used it and did fine and my maths is awful.

Pshh it was doable with methods knowledge (maybe spesh helps) but definitely did not expect any calculus on the test haha. Was this the one to do with approximation?

Haha don't worry, I've talked to heaps of people and they didn't have much clue either. You just had to be a little familiar with the notation (some is covered in the lecture 1 notes)

And yeah, still have not looked at the book at all, but there are questions from it for homework (optional ofc). The can be found on blackboard.

Rofl just checked the results, of the 4 questions I guessed (or educated guessed), I got 3 of them right Ended up with 95. Does anyone get 100 in this subject? or..
