Did I need Legal Studies 1/2?

Ok guys.. I have a bad habit of doing 3/4 subjects without 1/2.. (because I dropped physics and chinese 1/2, but that's another story :) ) I did Biz 3/4 which was pretty good without 1/2.. didn't feel like I was missing out on anything compared to my classmates who have done 1/2 in the past year.

Anyway however with Legal.. I'm doing 3/4 without ever having done 1/2 and I finding it a little hard to understand stuff and write in 'legal language'.

Do any of you guys feel like doing 1/2 legal in the past year has helped you with starting 3/4? Or were they pretty different? I know for sure Accounting is a "have to have done 1/2" kinda subject - 3/4 accounting would have been horrible without having done 1/2 and learning all the accounting principles/qualitative characteristics etc.

cheers
winn  :P

Not necessary, but compare the 1/2 study design to the 3/4. It's very similar. Last year I covered every topic on the 3/4 course, except the constitution in my 1/2 course. You can still do well, and it shouldn't hamper you, but its defs useful. Looking at the yr 11s in my class I can see that. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't think accounting 1/2 is necessary for 3/4. Sure it helps, but many yr 11s do 3/4 straight with no problems, just need to go over what you missed. Because the start is very similar.

BM is different as there is maybe 1 concept that is covered over (S.M.A.R.T) apparently. I didn't do 1/2 and my friends who did 1/2 used adjectives like 'bludge.'

'bludge' would be the correct description for bm 3/4 as well, for many people. thanks for your advice ;)

Exactly that. Anyhow, most of the concepts/information learnt in Units 1/2 is repeated again in Units 3/4; so there is no real need to worry. My school has a few students doing Legal Studies 3/4 this year, who haven't done Units 1/2 either. It's a subject that doesn't necessarily require Units 1/2 to be done - it helps; but it's not essential.

I said that a while back and I'll stick with what I said.

Do any of you guys feel like doing 1/2 legal in the past year has helped you with starting 3/4? Or were they pretty different?

So far, not really. For the first few weeks of school, it has mainly been revision of what I learnt last year. It's really just refreshing your memory, and even if you didn't do Units 1/2, I wouldn't worry. In my opinion, most "Commerce/Business Studies-based" subjects don't really require Units 1/2 - that's just me. Units 3/4 is essentially an extension of Units 1/2 - anyhow most of the information from Units 1/2 is repeated again. I agree with burbs - you can succeed in Legal Studies without having done Units 1/2, and based on what you got last year for Accounting and Business Management, I'm sure you will.

1&2 hasn't really been THAT much of a help. For AOS 2, for example, my teacher has said that the students who haven't done 1&2 are only behind the others by 3 definitions - exclusive/residual/concurrent powers. These are the only main things we learnt from 1&2. Then again, these things plus more are to be learnt in AOS 2 anyway, so you're not really behind at all.

I'm doing 3/4 Legal this Yr, without having done Legal 1/2. I'm already outsmarting every single Legal Studies student in this subject, and there's a student who did Legal 3/4 this year and, after previously doing in Yr 11. Anyway, the content is fairly striaght forward, and the only thing you have to do is outting the effort in to it and READ THE FREAKIIN TEXTBOOK!

However, be srue to get key concepts such as the Consitutional Referendum process in your head, because it can really become confusing for some (trust me when I say that people mention the right stuff but leave out the other bit - that is, A Referendum must obtain the MAJORITY of votes in the WHOLE OF AUSTRALIA, and A MAJORITY IN AT LEAST 4 OUT OF THE 6 STATES).

Quite frankly, the only situation when 1/2 is helpful is when you do Maths and Science.
Law is a kind of justice. It is not perfect justice, it is only a kind of justice.

thanks. :) yeah, can't imagine doing chem without 1/2. methods might be alright though.

EDIT: i may have been on a high when i wrote that. seriously. i would be f*cked if I did methods 3/4 without 1/2. don't attempt it. it's like, mental suicide.

At my school, Units 1 & 2 Legal Studies has been completely useless compared to 3 & 3 despite the fact you are taught the basic knowledge in one two mainly because there's a very different marking style between the two & there's a very different approach to teaching. I almost feel like I would've been better off with only 3/4 because the 1/2 seems to have taught me bad habits.

I am doing 3/4 of Legal Studies and I haven't done 1/2.

I find it to be easy, I got 43/50 on my last SAC.

The thing is to STUDY the textbook :)
