Had a chat with enwiabe, seems that this will definitely go ahead. Thoughts?

Look, at this point, it's a bit difficult to say when but I'd estimate around July. There are some legal issues to work through and I have to take out a loan to finance this, but I'd say with 90% confidence this is going ahead.

Have you determined whether we'll be folded into them as a subforum or if we'll keep equal status?

FFS Ninwa, are you against the idea, or against one of my ideas actually doing well? Just because I'm new doesn't mean my ideas don't have merit!

If the loan is too large, you could always do what's been discussed and implement a cover charge for use of the notes or charge $.01 per post on the forums

Go for cover charge, .01 per post is just outrageous. Not so much the price but that you have to pay. A once-off fee is also easier because I doubt members will have access to a credit card etc.

What about my other idea, to have an IQ test that members have to pass to be granted access to VN, so we don't just have ANYONE coming in? It would ensure that the advice you get is generally better, would boost the average of the forum and allow for better networking to happen. Or at least have like a second area where the smarter people can post?

Well if you've made 1219 posts (as of this post) that's only $12 for a lot of enjoyment. And it might cut down on some of the spam problems we've been having. But I guess it's only really important if we need to raise the money (someone think of a PR campaign to explain it though, maybe something about non core promises...)

I don't think there's a need to test people on entry, but segregating off some of the riff raff is a good idea.

I was thinking that we could try and implement a system where you need to pay to use respect as well? That way it would make us a lot of money, and also solve the whole issue of everyone negging certain members.

Count me in on this one.  So reputation wise, what does that make us?  A bunch of balls sucking ass kissers?

i was thinking what we could do, is make every member of atar notes pay, and let BOS come here for free since really, they dont know what a decent good forum/site is and we should let them settle in first. then charge them 50% of what we charge everyone else.

i mean really, this place has better results after exams than BOS. so we the fortunate ones should pay.

i reakon $20 per year is a great idea.

Engrish = 30+
Legal studies = who cares

Btw guys, if we do start some kind of membership program, obviously you guys don't have to pay because you're mods :) but it's probably best to keep that quiet, I can just imagine the outrage -_-

IQ tests are not very good/valid. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=x_qbMO-6ijkC&dq=iq+tests+completely+made+up&source=gbs_navlinks_s
Perhaps we should make up our own standardised test? An extra source of income could be providing resources/tuition for students to excel on those tests. A good market strategy is one that sustains itself.

Come on guys, let's be serious about this.  Any sort of intelligence test is pointless if the person can't communicate; I think we should institutionalise VN properly.  Enwiabe talked about "the revolution", and really, the next step is to make VN a real centre for secondary education, at both a state level and a national level.  Let's have screenings for all new members - make them write a personal statement, ensuring that they are both competent and community-conscious in their activity.  The last thing we need is more leechers coming here just to steal exam papers - let's make this a REAL learning community...
