Water's Noob Chem Question

If 1 atom of 12 C has an atomic mass of 12 exactly.


1 mol of atoms has 12C has a mass of 12gram exactly.



How do you do the mathematics behind this? Just now , looking back, now I"m questioning Lol.

How do we get the mass of 1 atom?

m = n + mr = 1 x 12 = 12g

is that the math ur looking for? or..

Jason, thats what I thought, but it isn't right. If its atomic mass is 12? I"m under the definition that atomic mass= 1 atom.

1=m/12

m = 12g

atomic mass = molar mass
molar mass = grams per mol

so 12 grams per mol makes sense.
1 mol of carbon atoms is 6.02 x 10^23 carbon atoms, or 12 grams worth
its just a different way to say the same shit

It doesn't - the atomic mass of an atom is how much 1 mol of the atom would weigh.
So 1 atom of 12C is gonna be 2 x 10^-23, but 1 mol of those atoms would be 12g

each carbon atom weighs ~2 x 10^-23 grams

remember atomic mass is grams per mol
so atomic mass of carbon is 2 x 10^-23 grams per mol of carbon
in this case 1 mol of carbon is 2 x 10^-23 x 6.02 x 10^23, or 12 grams
like i said ur just going round and round the same concept
