Chemistry SAC Marking

Hey guys, I just self destructed in my SAC today

So basically, this SAC consists of 3 pracs over the term + 1 test.

The 3 Prac I got respectively were between 9 - 9.5/10

The test is worth 20-25 marks, I just did today, I completely obliterated. My mind just panicked and I fucked it.
The Test had the theory on errors, and I'm pretty sure, I got most right. But I killed myself in back titration, it wasn't your average titration question, which spun me into confusion, when in actual fact, it was really simple.

I"m estimating of losing between worst case scenario, 8 points to 4 points. If given worst case scenario, and I lost 8 marks for my test, ....

Have I lost my opportunity to a 43 SS+ for chem . The chemistry department, declared to use scientific calculators, and I never used scientific before, therefore I couldn't play around with my answers + panick and not asking for scrap paper to work my answers out.

I don't think so. If you still work hard and get high in the exam, you could still make up for the lost marks in SACs.
I did the same as you really, aced all the pracs except the first one where I lost 1 mark, but the test I know I stuffed up a couple of questions. But my teacher said don't worry too much, and I know that the dux of my school last year wasn't the highest ranked for Chem, but still ended up with 44 raw in chem and got 99.25 ATAR.

So just keep going I guess.

You lost a maximum of 8 marks...worst case scenario. I think you can lose that many in the exam and still get a 50 (don't quote me).
Don't place too much emphasis on SACs...they don't matter that much. I know people who got B+s in SACs and got a 50.
It's all good...no need to worry. ;)

Thanks Pixon, and chemkid_23.

I hope, I will gun my next Chem test. This has made me determined to work even harder for Chem, and to use my time  more efficiently >;.

I dont think that losing that many marks this early on in the year will be too detrimental. And YES use it as motivation to do better!! You've still got hope :)

My friend stuffed up a SAC in a very strong cohort, because of that one SAC she was 13th in her cohort or soemthing, but she worked hard and aced her exams to get a 48. You shouldn't be worrying about one sac.

DUDE! Remember! SACs can be SCALED up!

When coming down to it,
it's really the exams and GAT that counts.
VCAA says they allocate 33% for SACs in the total mark.

But really they don't trust the schools, and it's the exams that REALLY (I mean REALLY) counts.

No worries man, I wasn't the top in SACs in my school and I still got a 50.

yeah, IF you REALLY screw up your SACs.

The GAT can actually help to scale your marks up.

I've read the detailed description of the GAT, it NEVER scales your marks down. ONLY up in case where you screw up terribly.

I mean I screwed up bio in year 11, got only an A in mid-year exam. Still got a 41. I believe it's because I got 44 in the Science section of the GAT.

So I guess it helps.

I disagree. I have never seen the GAT being incorporated as part of SS calculation (specifically statistical moderation).

The only times I've seen GAT is used is when a derived SS is calculated (due to illness/other circumstances). In which case they take into account the teacher's indicative grades, GAT results and any previous assessments.

VCAA may take GAT scores under consideration if a school's SACs are being reviewed. It is used more as a tool in the review process to quickly find discrepancies between SAC scores and exam performance. If an adjustment is required, they usually take into account a lot more than just the GAT.

As far as I know, the GAT does not directly modify the SS, and in fact doesn't affect SS most of the time.

Water, what school do you go to? Out of curiosity...
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

I lost so many marks on my Chem sacs (including missing a page) and still did well...the exam is what matters.
