In America?

$87k is actually quite, quite good. About the equivelant of $110k here, I'd say.
Google tells me that:
87 000 U.S. dollars = 83 766.6089 Australian dollars
Google is always right xD.

Untrue.

Everything* is cheaper over there, so a small salary can go a long way.

Almost everything

I should of wrote SARCASM right next to my post LOL. Sif no one understands internet sarcasm. :p

That poor person getting paid under 100k after five years of experience.

Awesome pay though! **Temporarily regrets choosing to become a teacher**
Lex - you're being a teacher? For what subj?

PE, and my secondary teaching method is likely to be one of English, Psychology or Biology :)
It better be Psychology :P

Haha, we'll see :D I do find it really interesting (having not studied it officially but autodidactically). Do you think it would be fun to teach, and challenging? That's what I'm looking for in my second method.
Fun yes, challenging No. My teacher has a lot of fun - there are many ways to make Psych fun due to its relevance to daily life

Eg: stories about ASCs such as alcohol-induced state, watching metals get owned during an MRI scan etc.

Thanks for the honest answer. Seems like you're loving psychology though, which is great. Psych's relevance is what attracts me to it. That and I find the human condition especially interesting and psychology is one way of exploring it. Good that your teacher makes it fun, what all should really endeavour to do but there are a lot of mediocre teachers out there happy to teach students crap.

It's something that I'll have to consider. I really want to do something that is intellectually demanding, don't want to be just an unintellectual PE teacher (which unfortunately there are many of - not necessarily meaning that they aren't good at their job. Might do some graduate study in another field after a few years of teaching.

It just seemed very, very ignorant, that's all.

Do you want to achieve both of those requirements, or simply one?

E: lexitu, dream of teaching at NHS? :P

Haha, not really, not sure where I'd like to teach yet. Is there something I'm missing in your question?

I went to a small private school before attending NHS in 2007, and the shock was immense... some of the teachers were amazing (like certain French, English or Science teachers) whereas some were pathetic o.o

Oh, and I learned more Chinese in Maths then I learned Maths. 8D.

It was an enjoyable school, though. I had fun.

I had a feeling it would contrast a private school. See, from my perspective it's pretty privatey and academically-oriented, and you can seem them progressing in that direction (for worse, in my opinion - or at least in the way they're doing it). But yeah, very fair comments. Funny about Chinese. Which teachers do you remember as good/bad? You can PM me them if you like, to avoid publicising them.

I have no idea why I am on the forum, I have a mid-semester exam in 2 days.
