Does tutoring help in english?

hey i have had a tutor in english since yr 10, and while at times the tutor has helped me touch up a few of my pieces (now i am in yr 12) looking back on it, i felt that it was pretty much useless waste of time and money.
this is  because in year 12 my grades have pretty much stayed at B+s all year round while ppl without tutors are getting As and A+s . Is it better to just work by yourself or have i not made proper use of my tutor.

wats ur view on this?

Maybe your tutor helped u get B+'s when you may have gotten D's lol. You cant really compare yourself to other people with no tutors, as they may just naturally be better at english..

well said, I think an english tutor can only do so much because english is a subject that i believe is largely dependant on natural talent

Let sparknotes be your tutor ...I presume you just need help with analysing books, if you need somebody to look at an essay or some work and correct it then why can't you get a friend off msn or something, if not, then I'm sure some people here would be happy to help you, rather then blowing out cash on an english tutor

I would NEVER get an English tutor

No i am not that bad. I think i would have stayed as an average B+ student without one.

I think English tutoring sort of works 2 ways. Your tutor probably helps you disect the texts that you're studying and gives you ideas, yes? Well instead of using the exact points that they give you, shape this information according to how you understand it and incorperate your own ideas. That way, you will feel that you have more control and a better grasp of the material compared to merely regurgitating what your tutor gives you.

Also, sometimes your tutor may not get the nature of the task as well as you do (especially this year; it's a new course after all!) so don't use their ideas word for word. Modify it to suffice the criteria of the task so that it's relavent, which displays an overall understanding of the task to your marker.

A lot of my friends expect their English tutors to do it all for them, but I beg to differ. I find that putting that extra effort in yourself is highly effective. Maybe you should try this and see if it helps you at all! It does make a big difference.
