Just wanted to ask what people are going to choose as a chemical to study for Unit 4:

ammonia
nitric acid
sulfuric acid
ethene

what is this? is it something our school chooses, or do we pick a chemical individually?

You have a choice as to which of the four chemicals you study in depth, in particular,
- factors affecting the production including rate and equilibrium position, catalysts, temperature, pressure
- waste management including generation, treatment and reduction
- health and safety
- uses of the selected chemical.

Your teacher will probably choose the one you study in class but that doesnt mean you cant also study one of the others if you prefer.

The questions on the exam will be generic so that they can be answered no matter which chemical you focussed on. For the short answer question you will need to focus on just ONE chemical for the ENTIRE question (eg you cant answer part a and b from sulfuric acid and parts c and d from ethene)

Sulphuric acid was a big part of the unit 3 course if memory serves. You should find a wealth of questions on it in past papers.

So I don't need to knoe ANYTHING on the other chemicals?

not to my knowledge

from what i've heard, we'll be required to know about the reactions of the particular industrial chemical and their equilibriums and other things [and the questions will be generic]

Ethene sounds good as well because it played a big role in the organic pathways bit in Unit 3 so we already have prior knowledge of it.
