Is it possible to apply for more than 1 mid-year transfer?

Hey guys, i was just wondering is it possible to apply for more than one mid-year transfer?

I don't really like the course i'm in and at this stage id like to either transfer into Science/Arts at Monash or Bsc @ UoM.

Is it possible to apply for 2 mid-year transfers?

It's obviously in my best interests considering the situation I'm in but im not really sure how it would work..

Previously I would have said yes, because it was direct to the university but if it's happening through VTAC then I'm not sure. Maybe direct to Monash because you're already enrolled there?

Do you want to do arts badly enough that breadth at melbourne won't suffice?

Yes you can.  Just apply through VTAC for UoM and directly to Monash for Science/Arts.

And if you're considering other unis you can apply directly to them or if they are through VTAC, just apply through VTAC along with UoM.

Here is a list of courses that VTAC administers on behalf of the institutions.

Bachelor of Science (Mathematics & Statistics) - Discrete Mathematics & Operations Research

Breadth probably would suffice actually, im just having a mini existential-ish crisis and i really don't know what i want to do anymore or a whole host of other problems i might ask for advice in another thread but this isn't the place.

It's just in-case i somehow don't get into UoM, i don't really want to stay where i am.

Just out of curiosity. What don't you like about your course? What would the difference be if you transferred to science at UoM ?

Well for one, straight science at monash is very restrictive.

They restrict your personal choice for "the greater good" of everyone in my opinion.

They make you take certain combinations of subjects, i guess so people who have no idea are able to do pretty much anything in 2nd year.

I however don't think its fair also forcing this on people who have a very clear vision of what they want to do, they should heavily suggest it to people but they shouldn't force you to do it.

Look for the "Breadth of Studies" section here. I'm doing option 2.

So, that's one thing that made me not like my course.

Also, while i like science, one of the great dreams i had going into uni was that i would be able to do some elective subjects on the side (probably arts subjects) but because of all of the above things i said, i don't have to chance to do any at all.

If i were at UoM i would *have* to take subjects outside of science as breadth so theres no way i can be robbed of this chance at Melbourne.

Also, a trip to Monash on public transport is about 2 hours away (Bus Train Train Bus), while UoM is roughly an hour away.

That might not sound like a lot but in a day id travel 4 hours for Monash compared 2 hours for UoM. In a week it'd be 20 hours vs 10 hours of downtime traveling. Also, if all goes well if i get into UoM and structure my timetable decently, i hopefully wont have to wake up at like 630am for most of the week.

So, you can see why i want to bail out of monash.

For instance, i have to do an earth science subject which i have no desire to do and an additional mathematics unit since mine isnt recognised, which i have no desire to do.

I have to go to subjects where i surely don't want to be there and i also have to pay for the prilevage of letting them force me to do something i don't want to. I could of actually used those 2 additional spots for other things.

Fair enough. Was science @ monash your first preference? i also live in the western suburbs and i would imagine it to be a bitch traveling to monash university everyday.

Science at Melbourne isn't restrictive at all, besides the breadth component (you have to do it).

In your case i think Melbourne science would be perfect as you can do an arts subject as a breadth. It is also dependent if you're more of an arts or science person. I had Arts/science as one of my VTAC preferences, but below Melbourne science because i knew that i could take arts as a breadth if i wanted to. I also considered the travelling distance and the prestige of the two universities, don't take me wrong- Monash is a very good university.

Really, it's up to you.

I can in just under the ATAR for melbourne science, so i just went to the next best uni which was monash, seemed like a good decision at the time.

Not even sure if i really want to do science either just yet but thats for another thread/discussion.

Yeah and i really dont mind the breadth component like some people do, i'm actually looking forward to it.

Yeah, i could switch into arts/science at monash if i wanted to, the upside to that is i actually get a recognised arts degree but the travel time would still suck and i mean id like to study arts on the side out of interest but i dont know if its worth getting a whole extra degree for it.

However, at monash i also get to do more arts subjects and they have some more subjects in the area's that appeal to me.. so i really need to think about it
