is there really that much maths in commerce??? im not a commerce student, but i hope to be, so i just thought it would be more simple stuff from your accounting subjects- management subjects wouldnt have much maths, but if anything it would economics subjects that comprise of maths that requires about a methods standard???

I had to tutor arts friends in how to use the chain/quotient rules, so there's a reasonably high level of maths in it

They do have to do maths. If you don't like maths, you should be able to avoid it through taking the right electives, but generally the core units will have some maths. Mathematics students will tell you that it's 'not real maths' but at the same time, there's usually a reason why Methods is a prerequisite for Commerce.

There's no maths in arts

(unless you do psychology, I think there's a bit of statistics in it?)

There's enough stats in a pysch major to cause arts students to drop out or fail. I can get examples if you want, but it's some tough stuff (above VCE level)

if you do economics, you'll have to do a fair bit of maths. Granted, not as much maths as maths nerds like me doing actuarial will be doing, but still you'll need a reasonably good grasp of general maths skills. Just ask anyone that is doing Quantitative methods (first year compulsory subject at melbourne) a lot of students (even some rather high achieving ones from VCE-yes i know vce marks don't translate to uni marks, just rest assured that they are intelligent) are finding it challenging.

However if you were to do a management/marketing major you'll be doing pretty much no maths, it depends what major you want but most require decent (but not outstanding) maths skills

Arts is fairly safe for people who don't like maths, there are of course a few exceptions.
