This is going to be a little bit difficult but it's got me thinking.  Across the board, what sort of marks do you think UoM students are getting?

I've had a look at a few postgrad courses and a few of them have "a 65 average across level 3 subjects" or something along the lines of that.

So if a 65 is the minimum benchmark, does that mean the average is around there?

They say 65 minimum but in reality, particularly for med you want around 75-80, you may be accepted with 65 if your gamsat is exceptional, if they set high mins it may discourage students, which subsequently may lose the university money, they aint the most financially endowed uni in aus for no reason, ha

Your average/WAM is irrelevant for medicine, all that matters is your GPA

I guess it depends on the course to some extend but certainly an average over 75 is very impressive. Most people would probably be in the 65-75 range I guess, since that seems to be the "easiest" mark to get without putting in an extreme amount of effort

The average mark for Arts is a H3 because it's structured to a bell curve.
I know for the Dean's List for Arts I had an 86 average and was in the top 3%.

Unimelb GPA? Different graduate programs vary in their discretion towards it, some accept third party organisations to calculate a GPA, namely medicine

For some subjects they enforce an average of about 70%. However, I did university enhancement micro and macro at melbourne and got 86 and 75 respectively, so average of H1, and apparently I wasn't in the top 20% of students. Although apparently a lot of people fail those subjects so maybe they give out a lot of H1s to make up for it?

I doubt it says 65% GPA because I'm reasonably sure it's just a 65% WAM. They do it for your second and third year only subjects from memory. Just average about 65%.

Most grad courses use WAM instead of GPA, medicine just wants to be special.

With respect to averages, I've had a few exams during semester and here are the class averages:

65% (Immunology 2)
80.5% (Molecule to Malady 2)
77.3% (Microbiology)
69% (Immunology 1)
75% (Molecule to Malady 1)

80.5% average...  My goodness.

But they're during the semester, so they wouldn't be assessing the whole course, right?

No, each one assessed probably a third of the course.
Yeah the 80.5% average is stupid, they didn't write good (non-ridiculously easy) questions for it.

Do level 2 and 3 breadths count towards these averages?

Thought I'd point this out

From Wikipedia:

Melbourne: endowment $1.173 billion

Monash: endowment $1.178 billion

ahha - thus it is blatantly clear that Monash > UoM

oh and with reference to the original topic, I think that most averages would be in the credit range

Yeah I know, I was purposely going over the top. Also, the wikipedia data could be out of date etc.

This was just another casual reminder that Monash is superior. ;)
