Hello,

I just did a practice test from my school for my application SAC for Differentiation

There was a question.

Let y=f(x)

What is the average Gradient over the interval [a,b]??

Is it...

Avg Gradient = (f ' (b) - f ' (a)) / (b-a)

Please help.

Thanks for the reply, however.
isnt that just (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)?

Isnt that just the normal gradient line?

average gradient = average rate of change
= rise/run or w/e
so yea

you have a random curve y = f(x). the average gradient over the interval [a,b] means constructing a line connecting point a to point b and finding the gradient of that line, which is, by rise/run, (f(b) - f(a))/(b-a).
