Illegal drugs in Victorian public schools

Hey, guys I few months ago I discovered that lots of students from my old highschool took drugs and I'm pretty sure that they're illegal drugs. What do you guys think I should do?

Should I just say nothing and pretend it's not happening or should I report it to the teachers/police? It's a public school where this is happening by the way but I don't really want to mention the school here so that people don't get into serious trouble. Anybody got any ideas what I should do?

Also is this stuff normal among other publics schools in Victoria? How does everyone normally deal with this sort of stuff? Just turn a blind eye?

Its not just common in Public schools, it is done by some students in EVERY school, even the 'prestigous' private schools and schools such as MHS / Macrob.
I can vouch for that! ;)

Teachers know IMO, but don't have the hard evidence to prove it. Plus some of my teachers at my school really dont give a dam..

Saw a guy injecting himself on my second day in UHS. Thought he was diabetic until a year 10 friend pointed that he was a drug-addict... Drugs are common in ALL schools, public/selective/private/etc.

Are you sure teachers/governments are aware of this problem?

Certainly if they were, you expect them to do more about this problem, right? ...Like making teachers and schools more liable for students who manage to get into the habit of doing drugs.

I can tell you for a fact that the teachers at my school are aware of drugs presence through our microcosm. In my most recent Outdoor camp students in my room got stoned over several nights, and at one stage the main teacher entered the room, told the students to stop what they were doing and go to sleep. When one students said they weren't doing anything, the teacher said that from their room next door they could hear everything.

Fark, that's scary!

How can you pin reponsibility on a school? Students take health classes; it's unfair to pin the blame on an institution or on teachers when they're employed to educate students and do precisely that... even top schools with passionate teachers have drug issues.

Sorry but.. LOL!!!!
I went to a private school and well.. Almost everyone in my year had tried at least some type of illegal drug before... And maybe half did so regularly in yr11/12. I dont know why you are worrying about them when it is a known fact that Australia has one of the worst (I've heard it has the worst but not sure if i believe that) youth drug-abuse scenes in the world... its really common.

It's common, but I see that as a problem. That said, I honestly don't think the responsibility lies with the school to fix everything.

I don't really think its up to the school to legislate or even think about, for even a second, the private lives of students.

What happens outside of school stays outside of school and it should be like that.

If they're consistently shooting up/using on school grounds though... thats another problem

I live in a really dodgy part of the west and i didn't see much of this but i didn't hang around with those kind of people. I knew a fair amount of people smoked weed time to time but it wasn't the majority or anything.

The teachers shouldn't have anything to do with students outside their teaching activities and teaching what they're assigned to. It's not up to the teachers to fix up students lives or anything like that...

I think you're under the impression the teachers will either actually care (some might) or actually do something about it... what will they do?

It's really their private life, the school shouldn't meddle in it and neither should you really. Just let them be man.

If they're doing it on school property thats a totally different ball game though, if they are mention that.

Otherwise if you tell the teachers, they cant do much like i said above. Tell the principal, yeah he might organise some drug education thing but do you really think these kids will listen? They can't do much beyond that. Call the cops? Thats pretty serious.

I'm not sure what the current laws are in Victoria but unless its the hardest of drugs i think they let you off with a slap on the wrist for possession but still, do you really want to get the cops involved? they're probably not going to do anything anyway, if its a couple small time kids using small amounts for personal use. They're not going to go raid their house or anything. You pretty much need to use it in-front of a cop to get caught. Who knows, if you do this one of them might wind up with a criminal charge somehow for a stupid mistake in highschoool, thats pretty much a career death sentence for the rest of their life. I really wouldn't do it man..

I think it really is their personal life outside of school and you should pretty much stay out of it. If they're doing it on school grounds or something like that of course tell someone but if its outside of school on the weekend i don't really think you should care about it.

Yeah they are, but all they can do is give them counseling at school. But these kids don't even go to school to begin with. There's so much a teacher can do to prevent them for taking anymore drugs, but in the end of the day it's all up to the student. Kind of sad to see as one my friends dropped out of school because of this.

I swear there were no drugs at my old school. Maybe a bit of smoking in the earlier years then it died down when all the ferals went to a different campus to be hairdresser and plumbers, etc.
