VCAA 2010 Biol U3 MC Q.17

The answers say red light is absorbed the most by plants, followed by blue light.

However, wikipedia says chlorophyll absorbs most strongly blue light, then red light.
And, my douchy notes, also says its blue light, then red light.

Am I missing some important factor that makes red light absorbed more than blue in the scenario provided by the question?

Cheerss

Yeah I liked this question  :D

Anyways check out heinemann biology 2, it has a graph showing the rate of photosynthesis
plotted against a range of wavelenghts of light and it showed red light as having the higher
rate of photosynthesis. I'm not really aware of the reason for this though.

The answer is in the Nature of Biol book too. It's because the plants absorb these lights and not reflect them. I heard red absorbs better.

Yeah i know they absorb best at red and blue/violet ends of the spectrum, but the question is of conflicting 'does it absorb red or blue better' coz i always red it as blue as per my sources.

just accept VCAA is right, that is what is important,
actually understanding why and whether that is the true answer is irrelevant.
