Hey guys I woke up this morning and I am feeling so unwell.
Last night when I went to bed I just had a sore throat and snuffles, but now in addition my ears are all blocked and I have a pounding headache.
My first exam is Monday and they only go till Thursday.

I've never been sick for exams before and obviously I can't call the student centre asking what to do until AFTER my Physics exam because that's 9:15 Monday.
Should I just go to the doctor's and get a med cert just in case?  Obviously I'm going to rock up to my exam but I'm bad enough at Physics anyway without feeling like I'm going to puke all over the paper.

So if I go and get the med certificate what do I do with it? D:

Anyone who knows anything about this, your help is much appreciated.  Tried looking on the website, was hopeless.

You'd want to get a medical certificate today, as well as on the day (to show you were still affect during the exam, as well as before studying) if possible. If you are really sick during the exam (e.g. if you puke), make sure a supervisor is aware and i'd think they'd make a note of it, which would help corroborate your story.

Talk to them (student centre?) after your first exam.

Edit:

You can also read this for more specific details:

https://sis.unimelb.edu.au/functions/special-consid/info/SubmissionGuidelines.html

Quote
If, because of illness or other serious cause, either you have been prevented from submitting or preparing for a component of assessment or your performance in a component of assessment was affected, your application must be lodged no later than 3 working days after the date of submission for the particular component of assessment.

Get your GP to fill in the HCAP form from the student portal and you can apply for special consideration. You should still sit the exam and then you might be offered a supplementary exam if your results are low.

The university doesn't adjust marks any more, they just offer supps if necessary

Im also dreading this situation, what marks are considered low <50%? What if someone got 51% it might be better to just sit the supplementary exam?

If you get special consideration approved then they'll probably contact you to ask you if you want to sit the supplementary exam (assuming you don't fail).

Sitting one is horrible though, you've got to go back and study for another few weeks after the exam period is over

Yes this is why I want to avoid it at all costs.  Worst luck.

Also I generally hate going to the doctors when I don't need to.  Like, they're not going to give me medication for a viral infection.  All that waiting around and paying up front before your rebate for a measly certificate.

Yeah my whole body hates weeks 10-12, I have cortisol reactions all over my hands and feet.

BUT GUESS WHAT GUYS, I WOKE UP THIS MORNING FEELING SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN YESTERDAY.  Which means that will probably happen tomorrow morning as well.  Which means, in the art of sucking it up, I shall not be applying for special consideration.  That's a relief.

It is horrible but look on the bright side:

If you're the type of person who goes to uni to study, at least you won't be battling people for a study carrel.  In fact, they'll be so many carrels free that you could listen to your iPod and sing out loud.*

*Please note that this is an exaggeration.  Do this at your own risk.  :P

Hope you get better though.  :)

WHITE TABLETS OF DOOM?

LOL!!!

Just take panadol beforehand?
I always eat skittles during my exams... UoM might be stricter than Monash though.

Well my Biology tutor said we were allowed to take in FOOD.  But she says a lot of things that I do not trust.
Like, can you imagine if I hauled a bag of Doritos in?  I don't think my classmates would be entirely impressed as I indulged in the cheesy goodness of Doritos while they were trying to concentrate.
Actually, that's a lie.  I can't eat cheese flavoured Doritos because I'm allergic to MSG.  But the thought of it is wonderful.

Anyway I SHALL take the tablets beforehand, this is a solution that in my present cramming state I had not been able to consider.
