wow thats really good!

I posted mine in another thread. Thanks for posting that! now I have a point of comparison. This should help me improve my work.

:-)

You're welcome =] I think yours is far better than mine tho. I really liked your juxtaposing point, I never thought of that!

I think its actually really important to have a conclusion of some kind. It can be short but seeing one of the criteria is based on the 'coherently constructed piece of prose'; you would loose marks if u didn't tie up your piece.

Its easy to do if you are comparing two pieces - just compare the effectiveness of both.. however if its only one, try to make a comment that concludes the piece clearly ie tie up the loose ends...

I once had a tutor who was a friend of an exam marker. He said the examiners hate generic conclusions that only tie up the essay. They prefer you to write something insightful.

yeah thats what I try to do (and i emphasize try). For instance in mine I finished with the comment of how the writer was essentially "preaching to the converted"

omg hi mel! =p
NO, I'm not the awesome one, all credit goes to my stone of intellectual whatever the hell it was.
=]

[/lame CGS joke]

Ahem anyway, I was never taught to have a conclusion for analysis but i spose you can if you want. Go read the ones in the examiners reports and see what they do, from what I remember they didn't have conclusions. I would have no idea how to write one ....

It's a stone of total awareness, get it right :P. If I had something to wear it on I would seriously try it just to laugh at it. Just like I was contemplating wearing my name tag tomorrow to school in case people didn't know who I was (for some reason I didn't chuck that)

English language is cool, 60% short answer ^^

If there is more than one article to analyze, make sure you compare and contrast them in some way! Examiners want that apparently.

For examples just read any of the high-scoring responses in examiners reports. I would copy/paste one here but I just realised this computer doesn't have PDF reader lol

Methinks there'll only be one article this year.     8)
Mandark: Please, oh please, set me up on a date with that golden-haired angel who graces our undeserving school with her infinite beauty!

The collage of ideas. The music of reason. The poetry of thought. The canvas of logic.

The two pieces usually contrast pretty well. Make sure to contrast as mentioned above. Talk about how it positions and persuades the reader rather than concentrating on the techniques used, they're more worried about the ends rather than the means (i bet you knew that though). It would be a good idea to read the assessment reports.

Thought I'd mention about 24 hours from now we'll be finished English. w00t.

Disagree with that. They want you to talk about how the language techniques employed is intended to effect the reader. The end of any piece is to persuade, and hence the language analysis requires you to analyze, and discuss the means (typically language/rhetorical techniques).

Ok thanks everyone :)

Um funny though i knew all that lol..

I just hope we don't have to analyse 2 pieces, I hate doing that...

I'm so nervous now... I don't want to sit the exam, :( I could barely sleep last night thinking about it. My teacher thinks I can get 80% on the exam, but after I received my trial exam results, well I just think she's lying to me.

Hmm I think I might not sit the exam... I'll just do year 12 again, sigh.
