whats a NP? He said to me " I failed Physics, I missed out by 5%"

I presumed that 50% is a pass and that would mean he got 45% =S

Confusssssssion

NP = near pass
Some units do this, others don't, that's my knowledge about it.

To be honest, I have no idea (and probably never will) about what to do in this situation, except to talk to someone from uni about it

awesome. so far, everyone owes me $50 :D

now you owe everyone $50 :D
SHUSH MAO :(

I'd say not- costargh quoted his brother's result not his own... and I take "only people" to mean the person who achieved the grades themselves
Thank you lishan ^^

I have no money atm :( spent it all on an 18th bday pressie.

As for the NP thing, most faculties DO do it.
Quote
A Near Pass (NP) grade allows a Faculty the discretion to award a grade, other than Fail, for a completed unit where the overall unit result falls between 45-49%.  The granting of an NP grade enables you to complete further study without having to repeat the unit in question.

Faculties that do not include NP Grades in their grading scale are:
Faculty of Art & Design
Faculty of Law
Faculty of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences

DAMN YOU LAW >_>

Hey does anyone know tim trott that goes there?
Ahmads there as well isnt he? Is he like the smartest there?
I know (of) Tim Trott, he's at melbourne and in mark_alec's, ahmad's, neobeo and my physics class.

He is somewhat a cult hero.

I did much better expected, since I was preparing myself for not being able to get H1 for two of my subjects (quite possibly 3), but ended up surpassing expectations in those 3 doubtful subjects, and doing average (relative to my expectations) on my "definite H1" subject.

Listed in order of my expectations (and by coincidence, final mark)

Engineering Analysis A (96, expected: 94-98)
Business Finance (92, expected: 80-90)
Organic & Bio-organic Chemistry (92, expected: 75-85)
Introductory Econometrics (85, expected: 70-80)

I feel better about the atrocious mark I got in Summer semester (which I still believe is because of poor marking -- I aced that exam and the assignments)

My average was 77 this semester, which is pretty good for an arts student, but I'm going to have to do better next time.

The ENTER increment is calculated based upon how you did against the cohort (80% - 5.5, 60% - 5, Anything else - 4), rather than your actual score. Therefore, unless you were to survey everyone in course to see how well they did, it's not possible to precisely calculate what ENTER increment you'll receive. However, as a *very* general rule, it's fairly likely that a H1 (or a high H2A) will net you a 5.5. H2B's and over are reasonably likely to get a 5... but again, one can't know for sure.

From what I've read, the rankings for the two semesters are averaged out - so, if you were to beat 80% of the cohort in Semester 1, but only beat 50% in semester 2, that'd work out to be 65% for the year and thus an ENTER increment of 5.

As for me:
Revolutions Through History - 80 H1

Pretty happy with that...

gosh darn it :(

However, you do French, which according to ninwa's rules is cool enough that it counts as you got HD in everything ^^

Introduction to transport processes - 91
Vector analysis - 85
Maths B - 93 (Ahmad got 100 for this and Neobeo got 99)
Organic and bio organic chem - 84 (Same subject that Coblin did)

Overall, I slightly exceeded expectations, I particularly didn't expect to get a H1 (>80) for chem. Vector analysis was slightly disappointing though.

Can someone explain to me the marking comparisons between Melbourne and Monash.
Monash
HD
D
C
P
NP
F (I'd presume F for fail or something meaning a fail)

I THINK it's:

HD = 80 -100
D = 70 - 79
C = 60 - 69
P = 50 - 59
NP = no idea because the stupid law faculty doesn't do it and I'm only good at my arts subjects hence I don't need NP for them
Fail = under 50 except in NP circumstances?
