Yeah, tricky question, but fair.

so tush if atomic radius is correct, isn't nuclear charge linked to atomic radius?? and i think you said something about core charge in your explanation of the answer which is just another name for nuclear charge. Peters agrees that in fact all 4 factors have some role in explaining that question

Exactly. And that's where the problem lies. All these factors are interrelated. I wouldn't be surprised if the markers' meeting comes to fisticuffs... :P But major ones are certainly atomic mass and atomic radius.

I think in the end it will come down to the MOST correct i.e. atomic mass kind of covers atomic radius, electronegativity (thus bond length strength etc) and whatever the other answer was..

Or it will come down to fisticuffs... who knows with these Chem assessors  ;D

Yeah i think the reason they were probably comfortable with that question was because, there was one more correct than the other although all are seemingly correct.

i reckon atomic mass is the more correct one.

Yup, atomic mass was the most directly correct answer. Atomic radius implied bond length...which is also correct but is less "directly" correct...damn this is mad!

For future reference, memorise the textbook :P

Yeh almost as ambiguous as bio last year! I was surprised because Chemistry is always toted as more of an applications course than theory..
