Suggested Solutions to the Mid year Exam!
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:32:18 pm »
Please visit the connect education website for suggested solutions :)

PM my account if you're really unsure of something. Otherwise you can debate answers below.

Keep in mind how much variability there could be. Psychology is not an exact science hence it's hard to tell what they'll accept but the solutions should give you an overall guide as to how you performed.

All the best,

Adrian.

For short answer 6a, did they explicitly ask for anything other than a hypothesis (population, sample) as you have wrote it?

The population, IV, DV are elements of your operational hypothesis.

I put them below to clearly show the key points you needed to have in your operational hypothesis as your wording could have differed to mine.

If I can find a scanner tomorrow then yes. But unfortunately I doubt that I'll be able too :(

Sorry ninwa!! I'll try my best.

Do you think they'd take off marks if for the fMRI scan question for brocas/wernickes aphasia.. I said that "there was minimal levels of oxygen and activity" in the left frontal lobe instead of saying "minimal levels of blood flow"?? =/

I've always being a bit iffy about saying that p=0.03 means that there's a 3% probably that the result happened because of chance, cause that's not exactly true. I know though that's how it's taught at VCE though so.

feel so much better surprisingly after viewing the solutions, only lost 5 marks to MC, lost about 10 on SA and just praying for the best with ER
just got a few questions, do i lose marks if for SA 1 i mentions beta waves and not beta-like waves ? also for the effects of sleep dep, would decline in memory be one :S? and for ER, i reffered to hippo is responsible for formation of memories, amygdala is responsible for implicit memories , would that get 2 marks?

They might take a mark off because they're technically not true Beta waves. Decline in memory is fine. It would have been good to describe what type of memories for hippo if you could have, and the amygdala responsible for implicit is good. Not really sure about ER marking though so I couldn't tell you how much it would be worth..
