Question 19 MC, I answered NMR....

Purely because vaporising petrol sounds like a bad idea?

Chemists do dangerous things on a daily basis. (It's true, half the stuff kills you/gives you cancer/makes you infertile)

NMR is not suitable because NMR is typically only used for pure compounds. NMR spectra of pure compounds are hard enough to interpret, let alone trying to interpret a mixture. Petrol is dangerous if exposed to oxidants (such as oxygen). In GLC, the carrier gas is typically inert (N2 or argon), and the sample is very small (a few microlitres), so the risk is small.

few, I was about to change from GC to NMR right at the end but just missed rubbing out when pens down was called. looks like I got lucky. I suppose our first instincts are always better.

eh yeah I knew NRM was a bad answer, just seemed to me that GLC was a worse one, and the other options were stupid :). HPLC would've been nice.

Good explanation, though.
