Hey guys,

my topic for my point of view essay is 'should euthanasia be legalised'

i want my first topic sentence to be along the line of "Under some circumstances euthanasia would be a better option for people who are terminally ill opposed to voluntary assisted suicide" however my teacher said to make this more clear and perhaps use it as a counter argument..could you help me with creating a clearer topic sentence?? basically in this paragraph i want to say that yes euthanasia should be legalised but for people who are terminally ill, ratehr than people who would voluntarily use it for suicide

my other topic sentences are:

By legalising euthanasia families are spared the agony of watching their loved ones suffer a slow and painful death

Individuals are entitled to choose when they want to die

What do you think!?

Thanks :)

Honestly, i think you had most clarity when you explained it here. With persuasive essays it's always better to put everything simply rather than to be convoluted (since your focus is about persuading, and you're not going to be able to persuade if the reader doesn't understand!). Obviously you should reword it but I thought the other topic sentences you provided were either too messy or lacked a strong and interesting point.

Most importantly, before you get into the details of euthanasia make sure you explain what it is first! Providing a quick definition regarding what is it and why it is an issue will give you a strong backdrop to base your essay on. Hope that helps! :)
