Hey everyone, I just spent a week doing work experience at rmh and got to hang out with cardiac technologists, nuclear medicine technologists and radiographers. nuclear med was boring, but I would recommend looking into cardiac technology and radiography if you want to work in this industry. These guys get to do procedures and tests on patients, so there's that element of interaction, and they work with the doctors and nurses in teams to get more complex procedures done.I reckon cardiac technologists are underrated, their job is so importantand really interesting. Bonus: they get paid well and have normal working hours and less stress than doctors. Hope this is useful.

For radiography/ nuc med:
Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging @Monash (4 yr degree)
http://www.med.monash.edu.au/bradmedimag/
Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations) @RMIT (3 yr degree + optional Hons year)
http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=BP148
Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Sciences) majoring in medical imaging @Swinburne (3 yrs)
Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical Engineering) majoring in medical imaging @Swinburne (4 yrs)
(The Swinburne website confuses me :S...)

For cardiac technology, check out the entry in the Job Guide:
To become a cardiac technologist you usually have to complete a degree with a major in biophysics, physiology or exercise physiology. Once you are employed you will receive on-the-job training and may be required to undertake further study.
You can also become a cardiac technologist by completing a bachelor degree in science, applied science, health science or nursing, followed by a Graduate Diploma of Science (Cardiac Technology) offered by Swinburne University

Yeah, I've got a mate I play tennis with that is a Cardiac Technologist. Did a day with him, he gets just as much access to patients as the doctors, actually puts the pacemakers in, and the big question....he still earns quite a decent salary.

Seems like a decent job to be!

Im talking more about the unique kind of jobs that dont have a degree that gets yuo straight into that field like physio, optom, pharm etc.
There are probs heaps of these different kinds of roles but its hard to find info on them.

La Trobe university has alot of courses in allied health other than the ones you have mention like audiologist, orthotist, orthoptist etc... check them out and they all undergrad combined with healthscience so u end up with bach of healthscience and master of sumthing with just 4 years of study which is awesome
